چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Physiological changes during pregnancy affect thyroid function and also free thyroxine (FT4) assay methods. These impacts make immunoassays unreliable for detecting hypothyroxinemia during pregnancy. Due to pregnant women’s adequate consumption of iodine in Iran, reference ranges of FT4 needs to be obtained for this group. Materials and Methods: A total of 1077 Iranian pregnant women were randomly selected from health clinics in 12 provinces of Iran during all trimesters. Five hundred eighty-seven individuals were included in the study after applying the exclusion criteria to establish the reference range. Then, TSH, FT4, and TPOAB levels were examined. Results: The mean age of the participants was 27.6 ± 5.7 years, and the median urine iodine level was 236 μg/L (188-321). The 5th and 95th percentiles obtained for FT4 were 0.93 and 1.35 in the first trimester, 0.78 and 1.15 in the second trimester, and 0.77 and 1.15 ng/dl in the third trimester, respectively. Conclusion: Due to the downward trend of the normal range of FT4 from the first to the third trimester of pregnancy, it seems necessary to consider the trimester-specific normal range for diagnosis and management of thyroid disease in Iranian pregnant women.

Trimester-Specific Reference Ranges for Thyroid Hormones in Iranian Pregnant Women

Background. Due to many physiological changes during pregnancy, interpretation of thyroid function tests needs trimester-specific reference intervals for a specific population. There is no normative data documented for thyroid hormones on healthy pregnant women in Iran. The present survey was conducted to determine trimester-specific reference ranges for serum TSH, thyroxine (TT4), and triiodot...

Establishment of Trimester-Specific Reference Intervals for Thyroid Hormones in Korean Pregnant Women

BACKGROUND Establishment of trimester- and assay-specific reference intervals for every population is recommended. The aim of this study was to establish a trimester- and assay-specific reference interval for thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and free thyroxine (FT4) in Korean pregnant women. METHODS From April 2012 to December 2012, 531 pregnant women receiving prenatal care and 238 age-matc...

Trimester- and Assay-Specific Thyroid Reference Intervals for Pregnant Women in China

Objective. The guidelines of the American Thyroid Association (ATA) recommend an upper limit reference interval (RI) of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) of 2.5 mIU/L in the first trimester of pregnancy and 3.0 mIU/L in subsequent trimesters, but some reported ranges in China are significantly higher. Our study aimed to establish trimester- and assay-specific RIs for thyroid hormones in normal ...

Establishment of reference ranges for thyrotropin, triiodothyronine, thyroxine and free thyroxine in neonates, infants, children and adolescents.

Thyrotropin, triiodothyronine, thyroxine and free thyroxine were determined in the sera of 714 euthyreotic neonates, infants, children and adolescents (age range 5 days to 18 years), using the IMx from Abbott Laboratories. Thyrotropin, triiodothyronine and free thyroxine were determined with microparticle enzyme immunoassays (MEIA). Thyroxine was determined with a fluorescence polarization immu...
