Acute urinary retention secondary to vasculitic penile swelling in children is extremely rare. Henoch-Schönlein purpura is a self-limiting IgA-mediated cutaneous vasculitis, which can cause soft tissue edema. Acute urinary retention requires urgent intervention to prevent obstructive uropathy. We describe an 18 month old girl with acute hemorrhagic edema of infancy, with palpable erythemaous purpuric rash on face, upper and lower limbs and ear lobules associated with edema and leukocytoclastic vasculitis. There were no systemic complications.
