The beginning of the 21st century has seen tremendous growth in the field of decarboxylative activation. Benzoic acid derivatives are now recognised as atom-economic alternatives to traditional cross-coupling partners, and they also benefit from being inexpensive, readily available and shelf-stable reagents. In this microreview we discuss recent developments in the coupling of benzoic acid deri...

An aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) with properties identical to those of the NADP+-dependent, tumor-associated aldehyde dehydrogenase appearing during rat hepatocarcinogenesis has been identified in normal rat urinary bladder. Like the tumor-associated aldehyde dehydrogenase, bladder NADP+-ALDH is cytosolic and preferentially oxidizes benzaldehyde-like aromatic aldehydes. Bladder ALDH is also ext...

In most laboratory mammals benzoic acid is converted into hippuric acid and benzoyl glucuronide (see Williams, 1959), except for the cat, which seems to produce only hippuric acid (Robinson & Williams, 1958, and unpublished data). Jaffe (1877) showed that benzoic acid was converted in hens into ornithuric acid, and benzoyl glucuronide has also been found to be a metabolite of benzoic acid in he...

The influence of iron species on amoxicillin (AMX) degradation, intermediate products generated and toxicity during the photo-Fenton process using a solar simulator were evaluated in this work. The AMX degradation was favored in the presence of the potassium ferrioxalate complex (FeOx) when compared to FeSO(4). Total oxidation of AMX in the presence of FeOx was obtained after 5 min, while 15 mi...

Studies indicating that vitamin A (1) and vitamin A aldehyde (2) are metabolized to water-soluble degradation products and CO% provide support for the suggestion (3) that there exists an oxidative pathway of major importance in the metabolism of vitamin A. The detection of vitamin A aldehyde in the liver (4, 5) and observations (6-8) that dietary vitamin A acid supports the growth of vitamin A-...

Abstract Despite the remarkable progress in diagnostic and antifungal drugs research in past 10 years ,still complexity of the characteristics of patients continue to make the management of fungal infection is a great challenge .1,2,4-triazole compounds not only offer an interesting chemistry but also their various derivatives possesses diverse chemotherapeutic activity. The recent literatures ...

Isonicotinic acid hydrazide (isoniazid; INH) inhibition of mycolic acid synthesis was studied by using cell extracts from both INH-sensitive and -resistant strains of Mycobacterium aurum. The cell extract of the INH-sensitive strain was inhibited by INH, while the preparation from the INH-resistant strain was not. This showed that the INH resistance of mycolic acid synthesis was not due to a di...

The objective of this study was to determine the level of preservatives and microbiological loads in various brands of commercially available chili bo (paste). Fifteen different brands of chili bo obtained from the local market and hypermarkets were analyzed for pH, moisture and benzoic acid content, microbiological loads (aerobic, anaerobic, aerobic spores, and fungi), and thermophilic microor...

Hydrogenation of benzoic acid using monoand bimetallic catalyst of Ru, Pd, Co, and Re yielded different products. It was observed that 5% Ru/C was an active catalyst for hydrogenation of both aromatic ring and carboxylic group, while Pd/C catalyst hydrogenated only aromatic ring. Ru-Sn/Al2O3 is a chemoselective catalyst for hydrogenation of –COOH group of benzoic acid.

The influence of addition 2,4,6,8, and 10 microM of benzoic and cinnamic acids and selected phenolic acids (salicylic, p-hydroxybenzoic, gentisic, protocatechuic, vanillic, syringic, o-coumaric, p-coumaric, caffeic, ferulic, sinapic) on the activity of pancreatic lipase was examined in vitro. The strongest inhibition activities were observed with caffeic, ferulic and benzoic acid, while sinapic...
