Contact dermatitis is seen in two forms of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) with 20% and irritant contact dermatitis (lCD) with SO% Frequency. This disease is manifested in three forms of acute, sub-acute, and chronic, characterized by pain, itching, vesicle, swelling, papul, lichenification and oozing. ACD or contact hypersensitivity (CHS) in an eczematous dermatitis which is regarded as T-ce...
We present two cases of Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES), a non-IgE mediated food hypersensitivity. FPIES induces severe vomiting 1.5-to-3 hours post ingestion of the offending food, and may be associated with diarrhoea, hypovolemic shock and acidosis. Avoidance of that food will lead to resolution of symptoms and prevents further episodes.
This study reports an unusual case of IgE-mediated hypersensitivity to Cochineal red or Carmine red, a coloring agent of natural origin. Although the risk of anaphylactic reactions is well known, since the nineties the use of this additive seems to be nowadays on the rise. The problem of labeling of additives used in handmade food products is highlighted.
This new regular feature will be focusing on the different methodologies used in the diagnosis of allergies, describing current assays and introducing novel approaches. Hypersensitivity reactions can be differentiated into IgEand non-IgE-mediated allergic but also non-allergic reactions. Over the next issues the different in vitro and in vivo diagnostic assays will be explained and the advantag...
The high-affinity IgE receptor (Fcε RI) is a heterotetramer of three subunits: Fcε RIα, Fcε RIβ, and Fcε RIγ (αβγ2) encoded by three genes designated as FCER1A, FCER1B (MS4A2), and FCER1G, respectively. Recent evidence points to FCERI gene variability as a relevant factor in the risk of developing allergic diseases. Because Fcε RI plays a key role in the events downstream of the triggering fact...
In this paper, the transfer of IgE-mediated food allergy by means of autologous stem cell transplantation in a 24-years old male patient is reported.
Although many immunoglobulin-related drug sensitivities have been described, there is a paucity of reports regarding IgE-related drug sensitivities. Here we describe a case of a patient who demonstrated IgE-mediated sensitivity to ibuprofen.
DEFINITION OF FOOD ALLERGY — In this section, the terms "allergy" and "hypersensitivity" are used interchangeably to refer to an abnormal immunologic reaction to food. Such reactions can be mediated by IgE molecules directed against specific food proteins that activate mast cells and basophils, or can arise from other cellular processes involving eosinophils or T cells. (See "Clinical manifesta...
