Using data from two American and one Finnish long-term longitudinal studies, we examined continuity of general aggression from age 8 to physical aggression in early adulthood (age 21-30) and whether continuity of aggression differed by country, sex, and parent occupational status. In all samples, childhood aggression was assessed via peer nominations and early adulthood aggression via self-repo...

BACKGROUND Social capital research has consistently shown positive associations between generalised trust and health outcomes over 2 decades. Longitudinal studies attempting to test causal relationships further support the theory that trust is an independent predictor of health. However, as the reverse causality hypothesis has yet to be empirically tested, a knowledge gap remains. The aim of th...

We report a scheme for the detector system of confocal microscopes in which the pinhole and a large-area detector are substituted by a CCD camera. The numerical integration of the intensities acquired by the active pixels emulates the signal passing through the pinhole. We demonstrate the imaging capability and the optical sectioning of the system. Subtractive-imaging confocal microscopy can be...

We propose a novel optical sectioning method for optical scanning holography, which is performed in phase space by using Wigner distribution functions together with the fractional Fourier transform. The principle of phase-space optical sectioning for one-dimensional signals, such as slit objects, and two-dimensional signals, such as rectangular objects, is first discussed. Computer simulation r...

An analysis of the sectioning method to control a shape of the laser beam spot is conducted in this paper. A possibility is discussed to use a form factor for solving the problem raised, and the experimental study of the sectioning method and the form factor for control of the shape of the laser beam spot was conducted. A PLD-based technical implementation of the method was realized.

In vivo high-resolution eye fundus imaging is a much-needed tool for early diagnosis of retinal diseases such as AMD and for the follow-up of such pathologies. One way to obtain high-resolution 3D images of the retina is to use an Adaptive Optics (AO) corrected conventional microscope (with no optical sectioning capacity) and to perform the optical sectioning a posteriori, digitally, via 3D dec...

The aim of this study was to investigate if children's early responsiveness toward social partners is developmentally related to their growing concept of self, as reflected in their mirror self-recognition (MSR) and delayed self-recognition (DSR). Thus, a longitudinal study assessed infants' responsiveness (e.g., smiling, gaze) toward social partners during the still-face (SF) task and a social...
