Pneumosinus dilatans (PSD) refers to an abnormally enlarged, air-filled paranasal sinus without radiological evidence of localized bone destruction, hyperostosis, or mucous membrane thickening. This disorder has been associated with meningioma, especially optic nerve sheath meningioma, but its pathophysiology remains unclear. Spontaneous pneumocephalus is an exceptional presentation of PSD and,...

PURPOSE Molecular and clinical observations suggest a role of sex steroid hormones in the occurrence of meningioma. However, there is limited and often conflicting data on the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) as a possible risk factor for meningioma. The goal of this study was to investigate whether there is an association between a diagnosis of meningioma and either current or past HRT...

We reported a 71 years old woman, with history of rest and postural tremor, bradykinesia and memory problems. In her dynamic MRI, a contrastenhanced tumor in the cerebellopontine (CP) angle was found which was compatible with a meningioma. 99mTc-TRODAT SPECT showed decreased activity in the left putamen, indicating idiopathic Parkinson disease. There was also a focus of increased activity on th...

Meningioma of the internal auditory canal is very rare. There are only 15 previous reports of intracanalicular meningioma. The authors add a case report of a patient with meningioma of the internal auditory canal. A 31-year-old woman presented with a one-year history of headache, dizziness, hearing loss and left facial paralysis. An MRI of the temporal bone demonstrated a tiny isointense intrac...

Primary extradural meningioma is about 1-2% of all meningiomas. Primary intraosseous meningioma is a rare form of intra-bone tumors that account for approximately 67% of extradural meningiomas. We report a primary intraosseous meningioma of a 69-year-old man who had headaches and a mass on right parietal scalp for the past few months. Remarkably, the brain tissue within the osteolytic cavity of...

We report a case of tuberculum sellae meningioma with optic tract edema. Contrary to a prior report on this topic, edema along the optic tract is not only seen in craniopharyngiomas but may be seen (although rarely) in other common parasellar tumors, as in our case of a tuberculum sellae meningioma. The pathogenesis of this edema in meningioma is controversial.

We describe the rare entity of an intraosseous meningioma arising in the mandible. The meningioma was found incidentally in an asymptomatic adult patient on dental radiography, mimicking other cystic-appearing jaw masses. The CT and MR imaging features of mandibular meningioma are reviewed with reference to prior published descriptions of this unusual entity.

The magnetic resonance (MR) appearance of intracranial meningioma typically is of an extraaxial mass that enhances intensely after contrast injection (1–3). However, difficulty in differentiating a meningioma from other processes can occur because of the tumor’s location or other features (1–5). En plaque meningioma can be difficult to image and can simulate other lesions, especially when near ...
