We introduce the 2PPI expansion which sums the bubble graphs to all orders. We show that this expansion can be renormalised with the usual counterterms in a mass independent scheme. We discuss its application to the O(N) linear σ-model.

This article demonstrates that very young children have knowledge of a range of syntactic categories. Speech samples from six children aged 2 years to 2 years, 5 months, with Mean Lengths of Utterance (MLUs) ranging from 2.93 to 4.14, were examined for evidence of six syntactic categories: Determiner, Adjective, Noun, Noun Phrase, Preposition, and Prepositional Phrase. Performance was evaluated...

We show that if X is a toric scheme over a regular ring containing a field of finite characteristic then the direct limit of the K-groups of X taken over any infinite sequence of nontrivial dilations is homotopy invariant. This theorem was known in characteristic 0. The affine case of our result was conjectured by Gubeladze.

BACKGROUND We aimed to classify the difficulties students had passing their clinical attachments, and explore factors which might predict these problems. METHODS We analysed data from regular student progress meetings 2008-2012. Problem categories were: medical knowledge, professional behaviour and clinical skills. For each category we then undertook a predictive risk analysis. RESULTS Out ...

In this paper, a new bipolar technology-based configuration for providing inverting first-order currentmode (CM) all-pass filter response is proposed. One of the main advantages of the introduced active C topology is to have the property of electronic tunability of its pole frequency without requiring passive component matching condition. To show the performance of suggested filter, simulations...

The Ultrasound Challenge was developed at The Ohio State University College of Medicine to introduce focused ultrasound to medical students. The goal was to develop experience in ultrasound through practice and competition. Initially this competition was held between Ohio State University College of Medicine students from years 1 through 4. The Ultrasound Challenge 2.0 was held in 2013. The eve...

We consider a class of auctions in which bidders receive (asymmetric) shares of the amount of money raised. Examples include corporate takeovers when potential acquirers have “toeholds” and auctions used to raise money for a public good. We show that the optimal selling mechanism in these cases is a simple “all-pay-all” auction in which all bidders pay a weighted sum of all bids. When bidders r...

In this paper we present an algorithm which attempts to align pairs of subsequences from a database of DNA sequences. The algorithm simulates the classical dynamic programming alignment algorithm over a digital index of the database. The running time of the algorithm is subquadratic on average with respect to the database size. A similar algorithm solves the approximate string matching problem ...

I n this small and charming book, Won for All, Michael Ashburner gives us a glittering account of the sequencing of the Drosophila genome by a public–private partnership between government-funded laboratories and Celera Genomics. He portrays both the working life and the good life of science, with neat character sketches set off by Lewis Miller's excellent portraits. Michael's fl air for detail...
