The optimum refractive-index distribution of the high-bandwidth graded-index polymer optical fiber (POP) was clarified for the first time by consideration of both modal and material dispersions. The ultimate bandwidth achieved by the POP is investigated by a quantitative estimation of the material dispersion as well as the modal dispersion. The results indicate that even if the refractive-index...

This paper presents a new approach to identify and estimate the dispersion parameters for bivariate, trivariate and multivariate correlated binary data, not only with scalar value but also with matrix values. For this direction, we present some recent studies indicating the impact of overdispersion on the univariate data analysis and comparing a new approach with these studies. Following the pr...

Two efficient unconditionally-stable four-stages splitstep (SS) finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) methods based on controlling parameters are presented, which provide low numerical dispersion. Firstly, in the first proposed method, the Maxwell’s matrix is split into four sub-matrices. Simultaneously, two controlling parameters are introduced to decrease the numerical dispersion error. Accord...

It is shown that the mean instantaneous intensity (MII) of a pulse propagating in an optical fiber affected by polarization mode dispersion is related to the frequency autocorrelation of the fiber's Jones matrix through a Fourier transform. A simple derivation of the diffusion equation satisfied by the MII and the autocorrelation function of a Jones matrix is described.

Carbon nano-tube (CNT) reinforced metal matrix nano-composites have attracted a great deal of attention in recent years due to the outstanding physical and mechanical properties of CNTs. However, utilizing CNT as reinforcement for alloy matrixes has not been studies systematically and is still a challenging issue. In the present study, Cu80Fe20/10CNT nanocomposite was synthesized by mechanical ...

We study a stochastic matrix model to understand the mechanics of risk spreading (or bet hedging) by dispersion. Up to now, this model has been mostly dealt with numerically, except for the well-mixed case. Here, we present an analytical result that shows that optimal dispersion leads to Zipf's law. Moreover, we found that the arithmetic ensemble average of the total growth rate converges to th...

In a previous paper we developed a matrix theory that applies to any cylindrically symmetric fiber surrounded by Bragg cladding. Using this formalism, along with Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) simulations, we study the waveguide dispersion for the m = 1 mode in an air-core Bragg fiber and showed it is possible to achieve very large negative dispersion values (~ -20,000 ps/(nm.km)) with si...

In this paper, we develop a numerical resolution of the space-time fractional advection-dispersion equation. We utilize spectral-collocation method combining with a product integration technique in order to discretize the terms involving spatial fractional order derivatives that leads to a simple evaluation of the related terms. By using Bernstein polynomial basis, the problem is transformed in...

The aim of this study was to produce Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) and Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA) films and to enhance their properties by reinforcing them with nanoclay particles. Thus, nanocomposite films were prepared with blending of CMC and PVA, as a matrix and several filler loadings of nanoclay particles. The various formulations of nanocomposite films obtained with casting m...
