We present the first results from an experimental campaign to measure the atomic ablator-gas mix in the deceleration phase of gas-filled capsule implosions on the National Ignition Facility. Plastic capsules containing CD layers were filled with tritium gas; as the reactants are initially separated, DT fusion yield provides a direct measure of the atomic mix of ablator into the hot spot gas. Ca...

This paper presents observations of Cygnus A at 74 and 327 MHz at angular resolutions of approximately 10 and 3, respectively. These observations are among the highest angular resolutions obtained below 1000 MHz for this object. While the angular resolution at 74 MHz is not sufficient to separate clearly the hot spots from the lobes, guided by 151 and 327 MHz images, we have estimated the 74 MH...

X-ray spectroscopy is used on the National Ignition Facility (NIF) to diagnose the plasma conditions in the hot spot and the compressed shell of ignition-scale inertial confinement fusion (ICF) implosions. Ignition of an ICF target depends on the formation of a central hot spot with sufficient temperature and areal density. The concentric spherical layers of current NIF ignition targets consist...

Emerging Infectious Diseases • www.cdc.gov/eid • Vol. 11, No. 2, February 2005 347 within SXTLAOS. However, the gene was not found in any of the proposed hot spot regions. The possibility that the trimethoprim resistance determinant is located on the chromosome outside the SXT element and cotransfers with the SXT in an Hfr-like manner cannot be ruled out (9). Therefore, additional hot spot regi...

Identifying hot-spot residues - residues that are critical to protein-protein binding - can help to elucidate a protein's function and assist in designing therapeutic molecules to target those residues. We present a novel computational tool, termed spatial-interaction-map (SIM), to predict the hot-spot residues of an evolutionarily conserved protein-protein interaction from the structure of an ...

Single molecule surface enhanced Raman scattering (SM-SERS) is a highly local effect occurring at sharp edges, interparticle junctions and crevices or other geometries with a sharp nanoroughness of plasmonic nanostructures ("hot spots"). The emission of an individual molecule at SM-SERS conditions depends on the local enhancement field of the hot spots, as well as the binding affinity and posit...

In this paper, the self-focusing property of an intense circularly polarized laser pulse in hot magnetized plasma is investigated theoretically. First, an envelope equation governing the spot-size of the laser beam for both left- and right-hand polarizations has been derived in the presence of a planar wiggler. Furthermore, non-linear dispersion relation of laser pulse is obtained by using Maxw...

We report the first detection of CO emission at high spectral resolution in day-side infrared thermal spectrum an exoplanet. These lines, found atmosphere transiting ultra hot Jupiter (UHJ) WASP-33 b, provide unambiguous evidence its inversion. Using spectra from MMT Exoplanet Atmosphere Survey (MEASURE, $R\sim15,000$), covering pre- and post-eclipse phases, we cross-correlate with 1D PHOENIX t...

Sagittarius A*, the supermassive compact object at the center of the Galaxy, exhibits outbursts in the near infrared and X-ray domains. These flares are likely due to energetic events very close to the central object, on a scale of a few Schwarzschild radii. Optical interferometry will soon be able to provide astrometry with an accuracy of this order (≃ 10 μas). In this article we use recent ph...
