In the title compound, [Ca(C(5)H(2)N(2)O(4))(H(2)O)](n), the Ca(2+) cations are eigthtfold coordinated by six O atoms and one N atom of four symmetry-related anions and one water mol-ecule within an irregular polyhedron. These CaO(7)N polyhedra are connected via the anions into a three-dimensional network. The anions are additionally linked by N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding.

The solvation properties of some room-temperature ionic liquids consisting of imidazolium cations and various anions were examined by means of the high-pressure spectroscopy with solvatochromic probes. We measured the pressure dependence of KamletTaft solvatochromic parameters (π∗, β) and microviscosity (η). It was found that π∗ and β were not so sensitive to the types of imidazolium cations an...

To elucidate the mechanism of DNA strand breaks by low-energy electrons (LEE), theoretical investigations of the LEE attachment-induced C(5')-O(5') sigma bond breaking of pyrimidine nucleotides (5'-dCMPH and 5'-dTMPH) were performed by using the B3LYP/DZP++ approach. The results indicate that the pyrimidine nucleotides are able to capture electrons characterized by near-0-eV energy to form elec...

The binding of physiologically anionic species or negatively charged drug molecules to proteins is of great importance in biochemistry and medicine. Since affinity capillary electrophoresis (ACE) has already proven to be a suitable analytical tool to study the influence of ions on proteins, this technique was applied here for comprehensively studying the influence of various anions on proteins ...

From experiments on such membranes as apple skin, parchment paper membrane, and a membrane of completely dry collodion, results have been obtained which could be interpreted by the assumption that these membranes are less permeable for anions than for cations. In parchment paper there is only a relative diminution of the mobility of the anions, in the apple skin and in the dry collodion membran...

The asymmetric unit of the title complex salt, [Cr(C10H24N4)(NH3)2][ZnCl4]Cl·H2O, is comprised of four halves of the Cr(III) complex cations (the counterparts being generated by application of inversion symmetry), two tetra-chlorido-zincate anions, two chloride anions and two water mol-ecules. Each Cr(III) ion is coordinated by the four N atoms of the cyclam (1,4,8,11-tetra-aza-cyclo-tetra-deca...

Unlike the "parent" carborane anion CHB(11)H(11)(-), halogenated carborane anions such as CHB(11)H(5)Br(6)(-) can be readily C-functionalized in high yield and purity, enhancing their utility as weakly coordinating anions.

An ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC) actuator composed of a thin perfluorinated ionomer membrane with electrodes plated on both surfaces undergoes a large bending motion when a low electric field is applied across its thickness. Such actuators are soft, lightweight, and able to operate in solutions and thus show promise with regard to a wide range of applications, including MEMS sensors, art...

Five isatin anions were prepared by deprotonation of initial isatins in aprotic solvents using basic fluoride and acetate anions (F- and CH₃COO-). The F- basicity is sufficient to deprotonate isatin NH hydrogen from all the studied compounds. This process is reversible. In the presence of proton donor solvents, the anions form the corresponding isatins. The isatin hydrogen acidity depends on th...

The development of synthetic receptors and chemosensors for anions has attracted much attention in recent years as the fundamental role of anions in biological and chemical processes has become increasingly understood. Biomacromolecules such as sulfate-binding proteins and a CIC chloride channel make use of hydrogen bonds as a major driving force to bind or transport anions through cell membran...
