We consider the problem of finding small distance-preserving subgraphs of undirected, unweighted interval graphs with k terminal vertices. We prove the following results. 1. Finding an optimal distance-preserving subgraph is NP-hard for general graphs. 2. Every interval graph admits a subgraph with O(k) branching vertices that approximates pairwise terminal distances up to an additive term of +...

The Constraint Hierarchy (CH) framework is used to tackle multiple criteria selection (MCS), consisting of a set of candidates and a set of, possibly competing, criteria for selecting the \best" candidate(s). In this paper, we identify aspects of the CH framework for further enhancement so as to model and solve MCS problems more accurately. We propose the Fuzzy Constraint Hierarchies framework,...

In this paper, based in the L ukasiewicz logic, the definition offuzzifying soft neighborhood structure and fuzzifying soft continuity areintroduced. Also, the fuzzifying soft proximity spaces which are ageneralizations of the classical soft proximity spaces are given. Severaltheorems on classical soft proximities are special cases of the theorems weprove in this paper.

The aim of this paper is to study the categorical relations betweenmatroids, Goetschel-Voxman’s fuzzy matroids and Shi’s fuzzifying matroids. It is shown that the category of fuzzifying matroids is isomorphic to that ofclosed fuzzy matroids and the latter is concretely coreflective in the categoryof fuzzy matroids. The category of matroids can be embedded in that offuzzifying matroids as a simul...

Let I = [a, b] be a real compact interval and f : I → I a continuous function. Define Kc([a, b]) the class of all non empty compact subinterval of [a, b] and let f̄ the natural extension of f to Kc([a, b]), that is to say, f̄(J) = f(J) for all J ∈ I([a, b]). Also, let Fc([a, b]) the class of all fuzzy-intervals with support contained in [a, b] and consider f̂ the Zadeh’s extension of f to Fc([a, b...

We consider a one-parameter family of expanding interval maps {Tα}α∈[0,1] (japanese continued fractions) which include the Gauss map (α = 1) and the nearest integer and by-excess continued fraction maps (α = 1 2 , α = 0). We prove that the Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy h(α) of these maps depends continuously on the parameter and that h(α) → 0 as α → 0. Numerical results suggest that this convergence...

In his famous paper [15] Ibragim Ibishievich Ibragimov has given asymptotic values of the best uniform approximation of functions of the form (a − x) ln(a − x), (a ≥ 1). These results have led to the development of a series of new directions in Approximation Theory, including the following ones, to which we devote this paper. • Constructive characterization of approximation of functions on a cl...
