This article presents a quantitative approach to ganglion cell classification by considering combinations of several geometrical features including fractal dimension, symmetry, diameter, eccentricity and convex hull. Special attention is given to moment and symmetrybased features. Several combinations of such features are fed to two clustering methods (Ward’s hierarchical scheme and K-Means) an...

We propose a method for recognizing architectural symbols. The method is based on the description of the model through a set of constraints on geometrical features, and on propagating the features extracted from a drawing through the network of constraints. One advantage of this approach is the possibility to incrementally build and update the model, when new symbols have to be taken into account.

Supernovae of type IIn possess spectral signatures that indicate an intense interaction between the supernova ejecta and surrounding dense circumstellar material cast off by the star in pre-explosion mass-loss episodes. Studying this interaction can yield clues to the nature of Type IIn progenitors and their mass loss history. In particular, polarization spectra of Type IIn’s show complex line ...

This paper addresses the problem of distributed image coding in camera neworks. The correlation between multiple images of a scene captured from different viewpoints can be effiiciently modeled by local geometric transforms of prominent images features. Such features can be efficiently represented by sparse approximation algorithms using geometric dictionaries of various waveforms, called atoms...

The concept of a funneled energy landscape and the principle of minimal frustration are the theoretical foundation justifying the applicability of structure-based models. In simulations, a protein is commonly reduced to a CR-bead representation. These simulations are sufficient to predict the geometrical features of the folding mechanism observed experimentally utilizing a concise formulation o...

acquisition field reference data using conventional methods due to limited and time-consuming data from a single tree in recent years, to generate reference data for forest studies using terrestrial laser scanner data, aerial laser scanner data, radar and Optics has become commonplace, and complete, accurate 3D data from a single tree or reference trees can be recorded. The detection and identi...

We prove that any generic (i.e., possibly aperiodic) Lorenz gas in two dimensions, with finite horizon and non-degenerate geometrical features, is ergodic if it is recurrent. We also give examples of aperiodic recurrent gases. Mathematics Subject Classification: 37D50, 37A40.

In the frame of LCM processes, mesoscopic architecture a preform is defined by sequential stacking layers in mold. Once compaction carried out, precise orientation and spatial distribution tows difficult to know with precision. The lack this information can lead wrong prediction properties. work, we present new non-destructive methodology obtain about mesoscale multi-layer its compacted state. ...

Novel chromophores based on the alternation of electron-poor (pyridyl) and electron-rich (ethylenedioxythienyl) heterocycles were synthesized for the first time and shown to exhibit attractive optical properties in relation with their specific electronic and geometrical (coiled structure) features.
