Within the realm of globalization of R&D, offshoring is a relatively recent and still emerging phenomenon. Rooted in the notion of comparative advantage, offshoring of R&D involves disaggregation and global distribution of the firm’s R&D value chain activities to leverage innovation capacity of low-cost countries. Characteristically different from marketand technology-seeking globalization of R...

Exploring topological structure at Autonomous System (AS) level is indispensable for understanding most issues in Internet services. Previous models of AS graph involve address or connectivity information separately, and neither of these information can serve as a comprehensive metric for evaluating an AS’s contribution to the global routing. In this paper, we propose a new model for AS ranking...

One of the primary barriers to the acceptance of surgical simulators is that most simulators still require a significant amount of an instructing surgeon's time to evaluate and provide feedback to the students using them. Thus, an important area of research in this field is the development of metrics that can enable a simulator to be an essentially self-contained teaching tool, capable of ident...

We analyze the evolution of the global Internet interdomain routing system on AS, prefix and IP address level granularities, using snapshots of RouteViews BGP tables from 1997 to 2001. We introduce the notion of semiglobally routed prefixes, those present in the majority of backbone tables, and classify them into standalone – those which have no subsets, no supersets; root – have subsets, but n...

Confidentiality is an important requirement that restricts information sharing between multiple providers in inter-domain routing and, more generally, in any Multi-Provider Distributed System (MPDS). However, sharing such confidential information can make these systems more robust by enabling the verification of global system invariants. For instance, undesirable interaction between intra-domai...

This paper presents the INTERMON dynamic monitoring architecture for spatio-temporal QoS and traffic mapping in inter-domain environment considering inter-domain routing (BGP-4 protocol) behaviour. The monitoring architecture is based on the collection of different types of time series data: QoS parameter time series data ,border router traffic data and BGP-4

Simulation has been the method of choice for analyzing large, complex, and highly volatile systems. One of these systems is the inter-domain routing infrastructure of the Internet. Despite the need for high quality Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) simulation tools, traditional BGP simulators have limitations either in their modeling fidelity or in their scalability. In this work we introduce BGP++...

The paper focuses on the process of inter-organizational knowledge transfer and on the potential of Electronic Communication systems (ElCom). First, the different forms of knowledge exchanged by firms are classified. Then, different models are proposed of inter-organizational communication, in order to describe each particular kind of knowledge transfer process. As a result, it is argued that, ...

In this paper we present a detailed scheme for annotating expressions of opinions, beliefs, emotions, sentiment and speculation (private states) in the news and other discourse. We explore inter-annotator agreement for individual private state expressions, and show that these lowlevel annotations are useful for producing higher-level subjective sentence annotations.

We consider the problem of realizing several common communication structures in the all-optical Partitioned Optical Passive Stars (POPS) topology. We show that, often, the obvious or “natural” method of implementing a communication pattern in the POPS does not efficiently utilize its communication capabilities. We present techniques which distribute the communication load uniformly in the POPS ...
