Lipid nanoparticles (LNP) are promising soft matter nanomaterials for drug delivery applications. In spite of their interest, little is known about the supramolecular organization of the components of these self-assembled nanoparticles. Here, we present a molecular dynamics simulation study, employing the Martini coarse-grain forcefield, of self-assembled LNPs made by tripalmitin lipid in water...

We report that Fe3O4 nanoparticles are able to catalyse lipid peroxidation in liposomes at acidic but not neutral pH. The oxidation is dependent on either pre-existing lipid peroxides or hydrogen peroxide as a substrate. This is the first evidence for metal oxide nanoparticles as peroxidase mimetics oxidising biomolecules in a relevant environment.

Therapeutic proteins are well-tolerated bioactive compounds used in different therapies, due to its high specificity and biopotency. Nevertheless, they may also present some physicochemical instability, leading loss of bioactivity hampering treatments. This can be avoided by loading into lipid nanoparticles, which biocompatible biodegradable carriers. The use lipids nanoparticles deliver therap...

PURPOSE Agomelatine is a novel antidepressant drug suffering from an extensive first-pass metabolism leading to a diminished absolute bioavailability. The aim of the study is: first to enhance its absolute bioavailability, and second to increase its brain delivery. METHODS To achieve these aims, the nasal route was adopted to exploit first its avoidance of the hepatic first-pass metabolism to...

Alopecia is a dermatological disorder, commonly known as hair loss, which affects up to half of the Caucasian male population by middle age, and almost all (95%) Caucasian men by old age. Considering that alopecia affects so many people and that there is currently no scientifically proven treatment with few side effects, new drug-delivery systems able to improve alopecia therapy are urgently re...

Objective: Oxidative stress is a leading factor in the development of silver nanoparticle-induced toxicity. This study evaluated the effects of oral prescription of different doses of silver nanoparticles and propolis on lipid peroxidation in male Wistar rats. Materials and Methods: The male wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups. Control group and three different treatment groups ...

The present study was aimed at developing aqueous dispersion of Ketorolac-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) by high speed stirring followed by ultrasonication technique and then incorporation into freshly prepared gel for transdermal delivery. A statistical central composite design was applied to study the effect of drug/lipid ratio and soya lecithin concentration on particle size and entr...

The candesartan cilexetil belongs to class II of the biopharmaceutical classification system and bioavailability is 15% due to the poor aqueous solubility. The purpose of the study is to improve aqueous solubility by nano technology of solid lipid nanoparticle by solvent evaporation method. Here glyceryl monosterate (lipid), polaxemor 407, tweeen 80 (co-surfactant and surfactant respectively) a...

Peptide drugs have been difficult to translate into effective therapies due to their low in vivo stability. Here, we report a strategy to develop peptide-based therapeutic nanoparticles by screening a peptide library differing by single-site amino acid mutations of lysine-modified cholesterol. Certain cholesterol-modified peptides are found to promote and stabilize peptide α-helix formation, re...
