Photoelectron counting distributions are obtained for radiation, consisting of a coherent and a chaotic component, after passage through the turbulent atmosphere. Independent additive background radiation is also taken into account. The counting distributions broaden markedly, and their peak occurs at decreasing count numbers for increasing turbulence. Plots of the distributions are presented f...

Background: The induction of cancer appears to be the most important effect of low-dose ionizing radiation to occur in an exposed population. In developing countries 94% of human radiation is from natural sources. In Iran some high altitude regions such as, Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari has high levels of the natural background radiation (higher than the worldwide average). Therefore, investigation o...

Radon exposure to the public contributes more than half of all the radiation doses caused by natural radiation; accurate measurement of radon progeny is quite essential for the dose evaluation of radon exposure in environment. For the purpose of establishing a radon progeny standard and controlling measurement quality of commercial devices, it is quite important to analyze the efficiency of dif...

Resonant interactions between energetic electrons and whistler mode waves are an essential ingredient in the space environment, and in particular in controlling the dynamic variability of Earth's natural radiation belts, which is a topic of extreme interest at the moment. Although the theory describing resonant wave-particle interaction has been present for several decades, it has not been hith...

We examine reduction of phase jitter by use of in-line Butterworth filters in soliton systems in the context of differential phase-shift-keying coding. We also demonstrate numerically that the use of a Butterworth filter in a return-to-zero differential phase-shift-keying system can reduce continuum background radiation.

Observation of faint diffuse ultraviolet background radiation is a delicate undertaking, given the brightness of the ultraviolet stars against which discrimination is essential. I demonstrate that the technique of tomography is unsuited to this particular task.

Emissions produced or initiated by a 30-GeV electron beam propagating through a approximately 1-m long heat pipe oven containing neutral and partially ionized vapor have been measured near atomic spectral lines in a beam-plasma wakefield experiment. The Cerenkov spatial profile has been studied as a function of oven temperature and pressure, observation wavelength, and ionizing laser intensity ...
