An increasing number of studies have confirmed that space flight environments can have a significant effect on a variety of microbial properties. To explore the effect of these environments on Staphylococcus aureus, we present the draft genome sequence of an S. aureus strain, named LCT-SA67, which was isolated after space flight.

Today, as we stand on the brink of the 21 century, access to space is still limited and flight costs are still high. Flight opportunities of any kind are rare, but at the same time it is clear that a new era is dawning. The completion of the International Space Station (ISS) will provide mankind, for the first time, with an international, permanently manned outpost for research in space. Lookin...

The loss of bone and muscle is a major concern for long duration space flight. In December of 1989, we established a collaboration with Russian colleagues to determine the bone and lean tissue changes in cosmonauts before and after flights on the Mir space station lasting 4-14.4 months. Eighteen crew members received a lumbar spine and hip DEXA scan (Hologic 1000W) before and after flight; 17 c...

To explore the effects of space flight on microorganisms, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 was sent into orbit for 398 h on the spacecraft ShenZhou VIII. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of the P. aeruginosa strain LCT-PA41, determined after space flight.

This article explores the potential benefits and defined risks associated with prophylactic surgical procedures for astronauts before extended-duration space flight. This includes, but is not limited to, appendectomy and cholecystesctomy. Furthermore, discussion of treatment during space flight, potential impact of an acute illness on a defined mission and the ethical issues surrounding this co...

abstract:assume that y is a banach space such that r(y ) ? 2, where r(.) is garc?a-falset’s coefficient. and x is a banach space which can be continuously embedded in y . we prove that x can be renormed to satisfy the weak fixed point property (w-fpp). on the other hand, assume that k is a scattered compact topological space such that k(!) = ? ; and c(k) is the space of all real continuous ...
