Conservative treatment of thoracic outlet syndrome consists initially of pain control and medicinal and physical measures. Therapy then addresses tight muscles, with strengthening of weakened neck and shoulder girdle muscles. Range of motion and nerve gliding exercises are instituted simultaneously, and the patient is educated in proper posture and ergonomics at home and in the work setting.
Modified “Trap Door” Approach for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Complicated by Subclavian Artery Aneurysm
Arterial thoracic syndrome is a rare condition that usually presents in young patients with upper extremity thromboembolization. The traditional surgical approaches described are supraclavicular and transaxillary. We hereby present the case of a 46-year-old male with left arterial thoracic outlet syndrome and left subclavian artery aneurysm. We describe our technique in approaching his conditio...
Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is one of the most controversial subjects in entrapment neuropathies. Views differ regarding the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of TOS. Some authorities even question its existence. In spite of lack of understanding of the disease, clinicians often encounter patients whose pain or neurologic deficits in the upper limb cannot be explained after ruling out ...
Cervical ribs are an anomaly that arise from the lowest cervical vertebrae but their relationship to thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is not so constant that the two conditions should be seen as synonymous. Perhaps no more than 10% of people who have cervical ribs develop TOS and the syndrome may well occur in the absence of ribs. Diagnosis of TOS may be difficult and depends upon a thorough hist...
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) is a well known lesion. Sophisticated imaging techniques can clearly highlight any anatomical damage and a wide range of therapeutic choices are available. It would seem obvious that any given patient should obtain the same treatment irrespective of the medical institution he contacts, but this is not the case. Instead each specialist may recommend different treat...

A cervical rib is a supernumerary rib that occasionally projects from the lateral mass of the 7th cervical vertebra. Clinically, it can cause obscure nervous or vascular symptoms, and it is difficult to diagnose. Studies have shown the prevalence of cervical ribs to lie between 0.03% on radiographs and 3% in postmortem investigations, depending on the sex and race of the population studied. The...
We examined the predisposing anatomical factors and post decompression functional outcomes among athletes with thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS). performed a single-institution retrospective review of patients TOS from 2018 to 2023 who had undergone operative decompression. Demographic data, etiology TOS, anatomy, details, postoperative were examined. The primary outcome was return sport. Secondar...
BACKGROUND Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) is a set of signs and symptoms existing due to compression of brachial plexus in the cervical area. We performed the study to highlight the role of therapeutic exercises on patients with neurogenic thoracic Outlet Syndrome. METHODS This quasi-experimental study was carried out at Armed Forces Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFIRM), Ra...
