Research on the effectiveness of concept maps on learning has long being neglecting three critical issues; i.e., the schematically structured maps, learners’ perceptions of the maps, and the various ways of presenting concept structures. When concepts are associated by logical or causal rather than by subsumption relations, variations in selecting concepts and describing their relations may pre...

Mapmaker Maps are essential while navigating through the environment. For instance, you might stop to consult a street map while traveling through Manhattan. Other maps are less concrete, however. Abstract spatial maps, for example, allow you to walk through a dark but familiar bedroom without bumping into the walls and furniture. This ability to mentally organize space is referred to as cognit...

Analytical techniques are generally inadequate for dealing with interrelationships or causal-ities among a set of individual and social concepts. Usually, cognitive maps (or causal maps) are used to cope with this type of causalities. However, the classical view of cognitive maps is based on an intuitive view with ad-hoc rules and no precise semantics of the primitive concepts, neither a sound ...

This paper focuses on the Rule Based Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (RB-FCM) potential to model the dynamics of qualitative real-world systems that include feedback links. It presents a general overview of RB-FCM and proposes a set of possible concepts and relations. It also provides guidelines to introduce time as an important qualitative entity in cognitive maps.

Fuzzy Cognitive Maps have been introduced as a combination of Fuzzy logic and Neural Networks. In this paper a new learning rule based on unsupervised Hebbian learning and a new training algorithm based on Hopfield nets are introduced and are compared for the training of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps.

This paper addresses the direct manipulation of cognitive maps. It describes its components and manipulation and proposes an object model that defines the properties relevant to build elaborated feedback. It also presents a metaphor based feedback dialect that is able to communicate the complex constraints of cognitive maps.

in this thesis our aim is to construct vector field in r3 for which the corresponding one-dimensional maps have certain discontinuities. two kinds of vector fields are considered, the first the lorenz vector field, and the second originally introced here. the latter have chaotic behavior and motivate a class of one-parameter families of maps which have positive lyapunov exponents for an open in...

Like most physical maps, recent research has suggested that cognitive maps of familiar environments may have a north-up orientation. We demonstrate that north orientation is not a necessary feature of cognitive maps and instead may arise due to coincidental alignment between cardinal directions and the built and natural environment. Experiment 1 demonstrated that pedestrians have difficulty poi...

This work develops a knowledge based system to autonomous navigation using Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCM). A new variant of FCM, named Dynamic-Fuzzy Cognitive Maps, (D-FCM) is used to model decision tasks and/or make inference in the robot or mobile navigation. Fuzzy Cognitive Maps is a tool that modeling qualitative structured knowledge way through concepts and causal relationships. The proposed ...

Due to the lack of an integral study about Cognitive Maps that focus on the causal phenomenon, this work introduces the underlying concepts towards a Holistic Conceptual Model, enhanced by a profile of several versions. We illustrate this by their application to Web-based Education Systems. From the causal perspective, Cognitive Maps depict and simulate the systems dynamics based upon qualitati...
