We examined which respiratory pathogens were identified during screening for Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus in 177 symptomatic travelers returning to Ontario, Canada, from regions affected by the virus. Influenza A and B viruses (23.1%) and rhinovirus (19.8%) were the most common pathogens identified among these travelers.

Toronto, in the province of Ontario, Canada was one of the cities severely impacted by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). SARS required the health care system to respond quickly and efficiently. This paper describes the situation and response at a large public academic aged care centre.

In 1987, Mycobacterium haemophilum was isolated from cutaneous lesions, a lymph node, and the right eye of a male patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and also from a cervical lymph node in a 3-year-old girl. These two cases are the first M. haemophilum infections to be reported in Canada.
