現在国内では導入されていない濃厚血小板製剤（PC）の細菌スクリーニング検査を評価するために，血液培養自動分析装置BacT/ALERT 3D（3D）と，その後継機BacT/ALERT VIRTUO（VIRTUO）を用いて2つの試験を実施した．まず3DとVIRTUOにおける細菌検出時間の比較を行い，次に細菌を接種したPCをVIRTUOで検査し細菌スクリーニング検査方法の妥当性を評価した．比較試験では4菌種について好気，嫌気各培地に2つの異なった濃度の菌液を接種し，3DとVIRTUOで各濃度5セットずつ測定したところ，VIRTUOの方が3Dより有意に早く陽性判定となりVIRTUOの優位性が示された．PCへの細菌接種試験では，4菌種8株について接種直後，および保管40時間後にVIRTUOで検査したところ，保管後の菌数が10CFU/ml以上あれば24時間以内に全菌種を検出できた．
