Packing rectangular shapes into a rectangular space is one of the most important discussions on Cutting & Packing problems (C;P) such as: cutting problem, bin-packing problem and distributor's pallet loading problem, etc. Assume a set of rectangular pieces with specific lengths, widths and utility values. Also assume a rectangular packing space with specific width and length. The objective fu...

In this study of catalytic microfluidic reactors we show that, when optimally structured, these reactors share underlying scaling properties. The scaling is predicted theoretically and verified numerically. Furthermore, we show how to increase the reaction rate significantly by distributing the active porous material within the reactor using a high-level implementation of topology optimization.

We show how to approximate the feasible region of structured convex optimization problems by a family of convex sets with explicitly given and efficient (if the accuracy of the approximation is moderate) self-concordant barriers. This approach extends the reach of the modern theory of interior-point methods, and lays the foundation for new ways to treat structured convex optimization problems w...

In our contribution we investigate how structured information processing within a neural net can emerge as a result of unsupervised learning from data. Our model consists of input neurons and hidden neurons which are recurrently connected and which represent the thalamus and the cortex, respectively. On the basis of a maximum likelihood framework the task is to generate given input data using t...

the main issues in nasal surgery are to stabilize the nose in the good position after surgery and preserve the cartilages and bones in the favorable situation and reduce the risk of deviation recurrence. also it is necessary to avoid the synechia formation, nasal valve narrowing, hematoma and bleeding. due to the above mentioned problems and in order to solve and minimize them nasal packing, na...

BACKGROUND In nature, obligate herbivorous ruminants have a close symbiotic relationship with their gastrointestinal microbiome, which proficiently deconstructs plant biomass. Despite decades of research, lignocellulose degradation in the rumen has thus far been attributed to a limited number of culturable microorganisms. Here, we combine meta-omics and enzymology to identify and describe a nov...

In Anopheles dirus glutathione transferase D3-3, position 64 is occupied by a functionally conserved glutamate residue, which interacts directly with the gamma-glutamate moiety of GSH (glutathione) as part of an electron-sharing network present in all soluble GSTs (glutathione transferases). Primary sequence alignment of all GST classes suggests that Glu64 is one of a few residues that is funct...

Clostridium stercorarium F-9 pectate lyase Pel9A is a modular enzyme composed of two hypothetical family-9 catalytic modules of the polysaccharide lyases, CM9-1 and CM9-2, in order from the N terminus. In this study, we constructed and characterized CM9-1 and CM9-2 polypeptides as rCM9-1 and rCM9-2 respectively. Both of them, like the full-length Pel9A, required the Ca2+ ion for their enzyme ac...
