Many plants used in Saurashtra folk medicine have been reported to exhibit high antibacterial and antioxidant activities. In the present study, some parts of five plants, Guazuma ulmifolia L., Manilkara zapota L., Melia azedarach L., Syzygium cumini L. and Wrightia tomentosa R.& S., were evaluated for their antibacterial activity, total phenol content, flavonoid content, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhy...

Licorice is a medicinal and aromatic plant that is taken into consideration for its valuable compounds such as glycyrrhizin. Salinity is a major environmental stress that affects the crops productivity. In the present study, the effect of salinity stress (using  irrigation treatment with different salt concentrations; 0, 150 and 300 mM) on fresh weight of root and total plant, concentration of ...

Comamonas thiooxydans strain PHE2-6 (NBRC 110656), which was isolated from a trichloroethene-contaminated site in Japan, utilizes phenol as a sole source of carbon and cometabolizes cis- and trans-dichloroethenes. We report here the draft genome sequence of this strain, containing 5,309,680 bp, with 60.6% G+C content.

Pseudomonas abietaniphila KF701 utilizes biphenyl as a sole source of carbon and degrades polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Here, we report the 6,886,250-bp draft genome sequence of KF701, which contains 6,315 coding sequences and 59.4 mol% G+C content. The strain possesses genes for biphenyl catabolism and other genes that mediate the degradation of benzoate, salicylate, and phenol.

The presence of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin in 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxy acid est-ers was shown to originate from 2,4,5-tri-chlorophenol used in industrial processes. The dimerization is thought to occur when the phenol is produced from the corresponding tetrachlorobenzene by the action of alkali. Logically all products originating from chlorinated benzenes treated with alkali are possible...
