Baylisascaris procyonis, a common roundworm of raccoons, causes severe or fatal human infections, often in suburban areas. To evaluate the effectiveness of a baiting strategy requiring minimal labor, we distributed medicated baits near raccoon latrines in suburban Chicago, Illinois, USA. This strategy lowered B. procyonis prevalence in raccoons, possibly reducing risk to humans.
Phase change materials (PCMs) can store large amounts of energy in latent heat and release it during phase changes, which could be used to improve the freeze-thaw performance soil. The composite material was prepared with paraffin as PCM 8% Class C fly ash (CFA) supporting material. Laboratory tests were conducted reveal influence (CFA-PCM) on thermal properties, volume changes mechanical prope...
Soil fauna is generally understudied compared to above-ground arthropods, and ants are no exception. Here, we a primary secondary forest each on two continents using four different sampling methods. Winkler sampling, pitfalls, types of above- below-ground baits (dead, crushed insects; melezitose; living termites; mealworms/grasshoppers) were applied plots (4 × 4 grid points) site. Although less...
Xenorhabdus and Photorhabdus spp. are bacterial symbionts of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs). In this study, we isolated and characterized Xenorhabdus and Photorhabdus spp. from across Thailand together with their associated nematode symbionts, and characterized their phylogenetic diversity. EPNs were isolated from soil samples using a Galleria-baiting technique. Bacteria from EPNs were cultu...
During a survey of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) in the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey in 2009-2012, a steinernematid species was recorded and isolated using the Galleria-baiting method. The isolate was identified as Steinernema kraussei based on its morphological and molecular properties. The analysis of the ITS rDNA sequence placed the Turkish population of S. kraussei in the "feltiae...
For the first time during the survey of entomopathogenic nematodes in north of Iran, a geographical isolates of Heterorhabditis recovered from soil using Galleria baiting technique. Based on morphological and molecular characterization this isolates was identified as Heterorhabditis bacteriophora NIR1. Morphometric and morphological comparisons of the new isolate with type species and other des...
A molecular epidemiology study was conducted between 2016 and 2017 by a network of collaborators from 12 provinces in the Islamic Republic Iran. total 1484 soil samples different habitats were screened for presence dermatophytes using hair baiting technique. The primary identification isolates carried out amplification MvaI restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) internal transcribed sp...
