Antimicrobial activity was detected in the 50% ethanolic extract of Ixora coccinea. The effective inhibitory concentration of the extract against both the bacterial test organisms and the fungal test organisms studied was 125 ug mL(-1), beyond which the inhibitory activity declined and the organisms started reviving from the effect of the antimicrobial principle.

Nanosilver (nAg) was prepared via Tollens method using dextrin as stabilizer. The morphology, size distribution and average size of the obtained nAg were characterized using Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and Dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique. A kinetic study of toxicity of nAg on Escherichia coli (E. coli) was determined. The obtained results showed that nAg exhibits spheric sha...

The antimicrobial properties of preterm and term breast milk cells were compared. They were similar in cell numbers and in the capacity to phagocytose and kill staphylococci. Interferon production on endotoxin challenge appeared to be higher in preterm cells. The antibacterial activity of breast milk cells was retained after storage at 4 degrees C for 24-48 hours. Cell numbers were unaffected b...

Introduction Iodine and iodinated resin have been evaluated for water treatment. Iodine (2.5-7.0 mg/l water) has been used in water treatment since 1900, especially for troops. Iodine’s solubility in water depends on temperature (0.29 g/1 at 20°C, 0.78 g/l at 50°C and 4.45 g/1 at 100°C). Its hydrolysis and hence speciation in water depends on pH and concentration of titrable iodine in solution....
