BACKGROUND We previously identified foreign travel as a risk factor for acquiring infections due to CTX-M (active on cefotaxime first isolated in Munich) producing Escherichia coli. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E coli among stool samples submitted from travelers as compared to non-travelers (a non-traveler had not bee...
The aim of this study was to determine the virulence characteristics and resistance pattern of the extended-spectrum/lactamases (ESBLs)-producing Escherichia coli strains isolated from urine of outpatients in the Zagreb region during a five-month period, and to compare them with the non ESBLs-producing E. coli strains isolated in the same period. Out of 2451 E. coli strains isolated from urine ...
Background: Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections, and several studies have reported the prevalence of UTI caused by ESBL-producing E.coli strains in different cities of Iran. The aim of this study was to evaluate antibiotic resistant UTI factors in outpatients and determine the prevalence of ctx-m gene in ESBL-producing E. coli strains of Bonab (East Azer...
Introduction: This study is aimed to compare phenotypic test methods and determine antibiotic susceptibility pattern of AmpC beta-lactamase producing uropathogenic Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in clinical isolates. Method: E. coli and K. pneumoniae were identified by standard microbiological procedures. Screening of AmpC beta-lactamase production was done by using cefoxitin disc (...
A nationwide surveillance for antimicrobial susceptibility in Escherichia coli strains isolated from food-producing animals in Japan was conducted from 1999 to 2002. Eighteen cefazolin-resistant E. coli strains were isolated from broilers. Six were CTX-M-type producing, and eight were CMY-2 producing, while eight had mutations at the ampC promoter region.
ESBL-producing isolates of human and animal origins (10); no clonality was observed for the other 7 isolates by pulsed-fi eld gel electrophoresis, E. coli ST131 has emerged as a worldwide pathogen and causes mainly community-onset extraintestinal infections. Although the pandemic spread of E. coli ST131 was fi rst identifi ed in isolates producing CTX-M-15 ESBL, it is increasingly recognized th...
Background and Aim: The variety of sweets along with significant difference level of hygiene in the production, supplies and high potential contamination of sweets ingredients with Escherichia coli, led to investigate the frequency of broad-spectrum beta lactamase strains of E. coli in sweets and determine the presence of SHV, TEM and CTX-M genes. Material and methods: In this descriptive cros...
Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) 3-producing Escherichia coli was isolated from a carrier of KPC-3-producing K. pneumoniae. The KPC-3 plasmid was identical in isolates of both species. The patient's gut flora contained a carbapenem-susceptible E. coli strain isogenic with the KPC-3-producing isolate, which suggests horizontal interspecies plasmid transfer.
conclusions the most common qnr gene was qnrb, and none of the isolates carried qnra or qepa. the aac (6’)-ib-cr variant was the most prevalent pmqr gene, and it was associated with the prevalence of ciprofloxacin resistance in our esbl-producing isolates. results of the 123 isolates, 103 (83.73%) had one of the five pmqr genes, including 83 (83.83%) of the 99 e. coli strains and 20 (86.95%) of...
background emerging antibacterial resistance rates and extended-spectrum-β-lactamase producing escherichia coli recovered from urinary tract infections (uti) is an increasing problem in different regions, limiting therapeutic options. objectives the aim of this study was the detection of blatem, blashv and blactx-m genes among escherichia coli strains causing urinary tract infection in children...
