The structural basis and the functional implications of large—scale flexibility are discussed for three systems: trypsin-trypsinogen, immunoglobulins, and citrate synthase. The trypsin-trypsinogen system provides an example in which an order-disorder transition is used as a means to regulate enzymatic activity. Immunoglobulins demonstrate how flexibly linked domains may be used to allow the bin...

A novel rickettsia was detected in Ixodes tasmani ticks collected from Tasmanian devils. A total of 55% were positive for the citrate synthase gene by quantitative PCR. According to current criteria for rickettsia speciation, this new rickettsia qualifies as Candidatus Rickettsia tasmanensis, named after the location of its detection.

in this study we have tested the ability of a standard dft computational protocol to reproduce the experimentally obtained stereoselectivity of 26 different c2-symmetric zirconocene catalysts active in propylene polymerization. the catalysts were chosen for their relevance in metallocene catalyzed polymerization of propylene. to this end, primary insertion of both si- and re-propylene enantiofa...

We report measured rate coefficients for electron–ion recombination of Si forming Si and of Si forming Si, respectively. The measurements were performed using the electron–ion merged-beams technique at a heavy-ion storage ring. Electron–ion collision energies ranged from 0 to 50eV for Si and from 0 to 2000eV for Si, thus, extending previous measurements for Si (Orban et al 2010 Astrophys.J. ...

Aluminum and iron oxides have been often used in the coagulation processes during water purification due to their unique surface properties toward anions. In the presence of silica, the coprecipitation of Al/Si or Fe/Si might decrease the efficiency of wastewater purification and reuse. In this study, surface properties and molecular structures of Al/Si and Fe/Si coprecipitates were characteriz...

We study four citrate synthase homodimeric proteins within a structure-based coarse-grained model. Two of these proteins come from thermophilic bacteria, one from a cryophilic bacterium and one from a mesophilic organism; three are in the closed and two in the open conformations. Even though the proteins belong to the same fold, the model distinguishes the properties of these proteins in a way ...

Study on geometric properties of nanoparticles and their relation with biomolecular activities, especially protein is quite a new field to explore. This work was carried out towards this direction where images of gold nanoparticles obtained from transmission electron microscopy were processed to extract their size and area profile at different experimental conditions including and excluding a p...

This paper investigates the kinetics of structure H (sH) formation kinetics above and below the structure I (sI) formation equilibrium curve at temperatures of between 2°C and 6°C. Methane was used as a help gas and methylcyclohexane (MCH) was used as sH former. It was concluded that in the points above the sI formation equilibrium curve, at the first, the sI forms, and then converts to sH be...

The aim of this paper is to study the effect of substrate on the Cu3N thin films. At first Cu3N thin films are prepared using DC magnetron sputtering system. Then structural properties, surface roughness, and electrical resistance are studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), the atomic force microscope (AFM) and four-point probe techniques respectively. Finally, the results are investigated and c...

In the present work, molecular dynamics simulation method was used for determining Young's modulus, Shear modulus and Poisson’s ratio of Al-SiC nanocomposites, with different volume fractions of the reinforcements. For simulation, the open source package, LAMMPS, was used. After putting Aluminum and Silicon Carbide atoms in their initial positions, interatomic potentials between them were defi...
