The use of diverse engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) potentially leads to the release of multiple ENMs into the environment. However, previous efforts to understand the behavior and the risks associated with ENMs have focused on only one material at a time. In this study, the chemical interactions between two of the most highly used ENMs, nano-TiO2, and nano-ZnO, were examined in a natural water ...

Highly nonlinear bistable current-voltage (I-V) characteristics are necessary in order to realize high density resistive random access memory (ReRAM) devices that are compatible with cross-point stack structures. Up to now, such I-V characteristics have been achieved by introducing complex device structures consisting of selection elements (selectors) and memory elements which are connected in ...

While the theoretical and experimental study of topological phases of matter has experienced rapid growth over the last few years, there remain a relatively small number of material classes that have been experimentally shown to host these phases. Most of these materials contain bismuth, and none so far are oxides. In this work we make materials-specific predictions for topological phases using...

all analytical methods are generally based on the measurement of a parameter or parameters which are somehow related to the concentration of the species.an ideal analytical method is one in which the concentration of a species can be measured to a high degree precision and accuracy and with a high sensitivity. unfortunately finding such a method is very difficult or sometimes even impossible.in...

Here, we report a facile method to fabricate a graphene nanomesh (GNM) by using a platinum (Pt) metal nano-network as a pattern mask. A hexagonally ordered Pt nano-network (i.e. nanomesh) with high-density arrays of periodic nano-holes was synthesized using an anodized alumina template, which served perfectly as a pattern mask for generating GNMs with tunable pore neck widths. Altering the neck...

In this study, a multi nanosensor was fabricated for the simultaneous detection of carbon dioxide, methane, ethanol, and ammonia gases, and its electrochemical response to various concentrations of these gases were investigated. In order to fabricate this multi nanosensor, in the first phase, the Graphene-Oxide/Polyaniline (GO/PANI) nanocomposite was synthesized. Chemical ...

Although liquid lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) is a good candidate for the coolant that can be employed in a subcritical transmutation blanket, it is known to be very corrosive to stainless steel, the material used in the containment structure. To mitigate this problem, trace levels of oxygen can be introduced into the system, causing the formation of a protective oxide layer at the interface betw...

Highly active/stable inverse catalysts of nano-oxides on large gold particles are designed and tailored. For the gas-phase oxidation of alcohols as a model reaction, the experimental and theoretical results verify that the catalyst activity depends on the gold-oxide interface, and the anti-sintering feature of such an inverse structure endows the catalyst with high stability.
