blunt chest traumas mostly occur due to car accidents and can cause many cardiac complications such as septal rupture, free-wall rupture, coronary artery dissection or thrombosis, heart failure, arrhythmias, and chordae and papillary muscle rupture. one of the most serious complication is tricuspid regurgitation (tr), which can be simply diagnosed by physical examination and confirmed by echoca...
Adequate exposure is a prerequisite for open valve surgery. The mitral valve can rarely be very challenging to expose. We describe a redo double valve replacement in a patient with nephrogenic systemic fibrosis in whom exposure of the mitral valve was achieved with cardiac autotransplantation.
The bicuspid aortic valve is a common congenital cardiac anomaly, having an incidence in the general population of 0.9% to 2.0% and a frequency of 54% in all patients aged >15 years with valvular aortic stenosis. In most cases it remains undetected until infective endocarditis or calcification supervenes. The bicuspid aortic valve may function normally throughout life, may develop progressive c...
a 32-year-old female patient with previous bentall operation and mitral valve repair surgery due to severe aortic insufficiency, mitral valve insufficiency, and ascending aortic aneurysm was admitted to our hospital with serious dyspnea, fatigue, and mild chest pain. two-dimensional echocardiography demonstrated a markedly dilated basal aorta and cardiac chambers. thoracic computed tomography s...
Quadricuspid aortic valve (QAV) is a rare congenital cardiac entity. The recognition of QAV has clinical significance because QAV causes aortic valve dysfunction, commonly aortic regurgitation. QAV is often associated with other congenital cardiac abnormalities. Our case represents, to the best of our knowledge, the first reported case of QAV with a non-obstructive sub-aortic membrane.
Valvular stenosis is an uncommon finding in bacterial endocarditis involving native cardiac valves. Prosthetic valve endocarditis, however, is more commonly associated with obstruction. Bioprosthetic cardiac valves may be particularly prone to this complication. A case of bioprosthetic tricuspid valve endocarditis with stenosis diagnosed by Doppler echocardiography and confirmed by operative fi...
The objective of the present study was to assess the feasibility of working heart off-pump cardiac repair (OPCARE), for example, for simple congenital defects or valves, with the help of a commercially available surgical robot in order to identify problem areas and to explore potential solutions. OPCARE was studied in four bovine experiments using the Zeus (Computermotion, Santa Barbara, CA, US...
OBJECTIVE To evaluate cardiac findings in 31 Noonan syndrome patients. METHODS Thirty-one (18 males and 13 females)patients from 26 families affected with Noonan's syndrome were evaluated from the cardiac point of view with electrocardiography and Doppler echocardiography. RESULTS Twenty patients had some type of cardiac abnormality. The most frequent was pulmonary valve stenosis followed b...
Background and purpose: To prevent Surgical Site Infection (SSI), a short duration of antimicrobial agents is prescribed just before the surgery which is known as preoperative antibiotic prophylaxis (PAP). In spite of evidenced-based guidelines for PAP administration, many studies have shown poor adherence to the guidelines. The aim of this study was to determine an effective intervention in im...
