In this paper a rst step in classifying the fuzzy subgroups of a nite nonabelian group is made. We develop a general method to count the number of distinct fuzzy subgroups of such groups. Explicit formulas are obtained in the particular case of dihedral groups.

The assignment of classifying spectra to saturated fusion systems was suggested by Linckelmann and Webb and has been carried out by Broto, Levi and Oliver. A more rigid (but equivalent) construction of the classifying spectra is given in this paper. It is shown that the assignment is functorial for fusion-preserving homomorphisms in a way which extends the assignment of stable p–completed class...

We can witness the recent surge of interest in classifying different patterns or types of abduction. Many philosophers, including Thagard, Magnani, Gabbay and Woods, Schurz, and Hoffmann, have suggested their own classifications emphasizing different aspects of abduction (Thagard 1988; Magnani 2001, 2009; Gabbay and Woods 2005; Schurz 2008; Hoffmann 2011). Such a development is remarkable, in v...

Musical norms evolve over time. In the eleventh century parallel perfect fifths were tolerated, and perfect fourths were considered more consonant than thirds. In the eighteenth century, parallel perfect fifths were not tolerated, and thirds were considered more consonant than perfect fourths. We prove several results concerning classifications, based on successive observations (X 1 ,. .. , X n) of an unknown stationary and ergodic process, for membership in a given class of processes, such as the class of all finite order Markov chains.
