The growth of wurtzite/zincblende (WZ and ZB, respectively) superstructures opens new avenues for band structure engineering and holds the promise of digitally controlling the energy spectrum of quantum confined systems. Here, we study growth kinetics of pure and thus defect-free WZ/ZB homostructures in GaP nanowires with the aim to obtain monolayer control of the ZB and WZ segment lengths. We ...

Cu2ZnSnS4 photocathodes with excellent photoelectrochemical properties were fabricated via a facile method of adjusting the sulfur partial pressure in a semi-closed system, which achieved a maximum photocurrent-density of 1.8 mA cm(-2) under irradiation of a solar simulator which is 9-fold larger than that synthesized in an open system.

Oxidation reaction of CO on a single platinum crystal is a reaction-diffusion system that may exhibit bistable, excitable, and oscillatory behavior. We studied the effect of a stochastic signal artificially introduced into the system through the partial pressure of CO. First, the external signal is employed as a turbulence suppression tool, and second, it modifies the boundaries in the bistable...

A novel structure of the resonant pressure sensor is presented in this paper, which tactfully employs intercoupling between dual pressure-sensing diaphragms and a laterally driven resonant strain gauge. After the resonant pressure sensor principle is introduced, the coupling mechanism of the diaphragms and resonator is analyzed and the frequency equation of the resonator based on the triangle g...

[1] Global ocean carbon models and available syntheses of the oceanic CO2 flux suggest that the North Atlantic subpolar gyre (50 N–70 N, 80 W–10 W) is a region of increasing uptake of CO2 from the atmosphere, with the oceanic partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) increasing more slowly than the atmospheric CO2 over time. Our analysis of available CO2 data shows that, on the contrary, seawater pCO2 has...

Teleost fish possess discrete blocks of oxidative red muscle (RM) and glycolytic white muscle, whereas tetrapod skeletal muscles are mixed oxidative/glycolytic. It has been suggested that the anatomy of RM in teleost fish could lead to higher intramuscular O2 partial pressures (PO2) than in mammalian skeletal muscles. This study provides the first direct experimental support for this suggestion...

In response to the growing demand for in situ measurement of pressure in high-temperature environments, a high temperature capacitive pressure sensor is presented in this paper. A high-temperature ceramic material-alumina is used for the fabrication of the sensor, and the prototype sensor consists of an inductance, a variable capacitance, and a sealed cavity integrated in the alumina ceramic su...

A wireless passive pressure measurement system for an 800 °C high-temperature environment is proposed and the impedance variation caused by the mutual coupling between a read antenna and a LC resonant sensor is analyzed. The system consists of a ceramic-based LC resonant sensor, a readout device for impedance phase interrogation, heat insulating material, and a composite temperature-pressure te...

This paper presents the design and modeling of a flexible tactile sensor, capable of detecting the 2D surface texture image, contact-force estimation and stiffness of the sensed object. The sensor is made of polymer materials. It consists of a cylindrical chamber for pneumatic actuation and a membrane with a mesa structure. The inner radius of the cylindrical chamber is 2cm and its outer radius...
