Bibliometric studies at the micro level are increasingly requested by science managers and policy makers to support research decisions. Different measures and indices have been developed at this level of analysis. One type of indices, such as the h-index and g-index, describe the most productive core of the output of a researcher and inform about the number of papers in the core. Other indices,...

Background: We conducted a comprehensive bibliometrics analysis to calculate the H, G, M, A and R indicators for all Iranian biomedical research centers (IBRCs) from the output of ISI Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus between 1991 and 2010. We compared the research performance of the research centers according to these indicators.   Methods : This was a cross-sectional and descriptive-analytica...

Objective(s): Recent evidence has shown underlying roles of gut dysbiosis and metabolic endotoxemia in obesity and its complications. Despite the large number of experimental and clinical researches performed on gut microbiota and obesity, no bibliometrics’ study has been conducted so far. We aimed to assess the trend of global scientific publications in the field of gut microbiota and obesity....

Recently, Van Noorden, Maher, and Nuzzo (2014) published a list of papers which are among the 100 most highly cited papers of all time. This letter argues that such a list should not be produced on the base of bare citation counts, but normalized bibliometric indicators – the standard in bibliometrics.

Properties of a percentile-based rating scale needed in bibliometrics are formulated. Based on these properties, P100 was recently introduced as a new citation-rank approach (Bornmann, Leydesdorff,&Wang, in press). In this paper, we conceptualize P100 and propose an improvement which we call P100_. Advantages and disadvantages of citation-rank indicators are noted.

Data mining extracts knowledge from large volumes of data. Bibliometrics was used to identify journals, papers, authors and events that applied it to logistics and to supply chain management. 255 documents were found and analyzed. Three clusters were identified: theory development, market-oriented solutions, and theory application. The relevance of the technique was discussed.

The identification of the scientific production and the evaluation of the researchers is a problem we are facing at present times. Bibliometric methods use mainly statistical tools and their results are of quantitative nature. Consequently, this approach does not provide any tools of qualitative evaluation. It is for this reason we suggest to examine the specific details of the bibliographic re...
