A 47-year-old woman presented with extreme hypercalcaemia due to a parathyroid carcinoma. An electrocardiogram which was recorded when the hypercalcaemia was associated with hypokalaemia showed absence of the ST segment, prolonged T wave, a shortened QTac interval and prominent U waves.

A numerical study about the generation of extreme events in lumped Raman fibre amplifier is performed. Evolutions of continuous or pulsed signals are analysed using crosscorrelations, spectra and probability density functions. For pulsed signals, the phase evolution is also explored. We show that helical turbulence produced during a first-order phase transition generates circularly polarized cosmological gravitational waves (GWs). The characteristic frequency of these GWs for an extreme case of the phase transition model is around 10(-3)-10(-2) Hz with an energy density parameter as high as 10(-12)-10(-11).
