PURPOSE Current physical activity recommendations assume that different activities can be exchanged to produce the same weight-control benefits so long as total energy expended remains the same (exchangeability premise). To this end, they recommend calculating energy expenditure as the product of the time spent performing each activity and the activity's metabolic equivalents (MET), which may b...
Building on the Ramsey–de Finetti idea of event exchangeability, we derive a characterization of probabilistic sophistication without requiring any of the various versions of monotonicity, continuity, or comparative likelihood assumptions imposed by Savage (1954), Machina and Schmeidler (1992), and Grant (1995). Our characterization identifies a unique and finitely-additive subjective probabili...
Locally strong coherence is an helpful property for inference models based on partial lower-upper conditional probabilities. Moreover, structural constraints are usually adopted to improve vague conclusions. In this paper this two aspects are joint together by proposing logical-numerical conditions that guarantee conditional exchangeability among couples or triplets of events.
A necessary and sufficient condition in terms of a de Finetti style representation is given for a probability function in Polyadic Inductive Logic to satisfy being part of a Language Invariant family satisfying Spectrum Exchangeability. This theorem is then considered in relation to the unary Carnap and Nix-Paris Continua.
We study a class of strongly irreducible, multidimensional, topological Markov shifts, comparing two notions of “symmetric measure”: exchangeability and the Gibbs property. We show that equilibrium measures for such shifts (unique and weak Bernoulli in the one dimensional case) exhibit a variety of spectral properties.
Motivated by the problem of designing inference-friendly Bayesian nonparametric models in probabilistic programming languages, we introduce a general class partially exchangeable random arrays which generalizes notion hierarchical exchangeability introduced Austin and Panchenko (2014). We say that our are DAG-exchangeable since their structure is governed collection Directed Acyclic Graphs. Mor...
