The natural course of hepatitis B virus infection and the resulting hepatic injury is determined by the degree of virus replication and the intensity of host immune response. Upon exposure to hepatitis B virus (HBV), individuals with a vigorous and broad immune response develop acute self-limited infection, which may result in acute hepatitis. However, with stringent testing for HBV and univers...

Background and purpose: Cytokines are a group of endogenous proteins which play an influential role in regulating the inflammatory responses and defeating infectious diseases. Elevated levels of proinflammatory cytokines and their receptors are usually observed in association with immune responses against viral infections such as hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. IL 12 and its receptor play an...

BACKGROUND Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is one of leading causes of various hepatic diseases including acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Hundreds of million people worldwide are infected by HBV, chronically. OBJECTIVES This study in conducted to investigate the influence of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotypes and type I IFN-αreceptor β subunit (IFNAR2) expression i...

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been a major global cause of morbidity and mortality. The recognition of the problem led to a worldwide effort to reduce transmission of HBV through routine infant vaccination. HBV infection is the most common cause of chronic liver diseases and hepatocellular carcinoma in Korea. After hepatitis B vaccine era, seroprevalence of hepatits B surface antigen is...

Serum and tissue hepatitis B virus (HBV) markers were compared in 35 alcoholic and 23 non-alcoholic subjects affected by chronic liver disease. Seventeen point one per cent of alcoholic and 21.7% of non-alcoholic subjects had HBV tissue markers, but not serum markers, for this virus. It is therefore concluded that showing the presence of HBV tissue markers permits a better aetiological definiti...

conclusions our data suggested an intermediate prevalence of g1896a mutation among malaysian hepatitis b carriers. the stop codon mutation has a significant association with genotype b and patients with chronic hepatitis b and liver cirrhosis. patients and methods serum samples from 93 patients confirmed as hepatitis b carriers were collected for molecular assay. the whole genome of hbv was amp...

A PCR-based technique was used to detect hepatitis B virus (HBV) integration in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients with chronic hepatitis B. Integrated HBV DNA sequences, with virus-cell junctions located in the cohesive region between direct repeat 1 (DR1) and DR2, were found in 2 of 10 studied patients.

We compared hepatitis B virus (HBV) surface antigen, anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibody, and HCV RNA quantification in frozen and freeze-dried serum samples to assess the usefulness of freeze-dried sera for detection of HBV and HCV. The results indicated that freeze-dried sera as well as frozen sera can be useful for serological and molecular biological analyses of HBV and HCV.

No data exist on hepatitis B virus (HBV) incidence among African men who have sex with men (MSM). We tested plasma samples archived between 2005 and 2014 for HBV core antibody or surface antigen seroconversion in a cohort of 312 initially human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1-negative MSM with no evidence of prior HBV infection. Hepatitis B virus incidence was 6.0/100 person-years (95% confidenc...

Integrated data on hepatitis B virus (HBV) patterns, HBV genotypes and mutations are lacking in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) co-infected patients from Africa. This survey was conducted in 2010-2013 among 762 HIV-1-positive adults from Gabon who were predominantly treated with 3TC-based antiretroviral treatment. HBV patterns were identified using immunoassays detecting total antib...
