On the domain of two-sided assignment markets with agents’ reservation values, the nucleolus is axiomatized as the unique solution that satisfies consistency with respect to Owen’s reduced game and symmetry of maximum complaints of the two sides. As an adjunt, we obtain a geometric characterization of the nucleolus by means of a strong form of the bisection property that characterizes the inter...

An effective method for the isolation of nucleoli from auxin-treated soybean (Glycine max, var. Wayne) hypocotyl was developed by polytron homogenization and sucrose gradient centrifugation. The nucleoli expressed only the alpha-amanitin-insensitive RNA synthetic activity. This activity chromatographed as RNA polymerase I on DEAE-cellulose. It appears that the plant nucleolus, like the animal n...

Various least core concepts including the classical least core of cooperative games are discussed. By a reduction from minimum cover problems, we prove that computing an element in these least cores is in general N P-hard for minimum cost spannning tree games. As a consequence, computing the nucleolus, the nucleon and the per-capita nucleolus of minimum cost spanning tree games is also N P-hard.

For 2-convexn-person cooperativeTUgames, the nucleolus is determined as some type of constrained equal award rule. Its proof is based on Maschler, Peleg, and Shapley’s geometrical characterization for the intersection of the prekernel with the core. Pairwise bargaining ranges within the core are required to be in equilibrium. This system of non-linear equations is solved and its unique solution...

Myo6 gets choosy timulated neurons that lack myo-sin VI (Myo6) fail to endocytose a subtype of glutamate receptors called AMPARs, report Osterweil et al. on page 329. However, the neurons do not have a general endocytosis defect, suggesting a role for Myo6 in specific endocytic events. Unlike other myosins, Myo6 moves toward the minus ends of actin filaments. Thus, in polarized cells or cell re...

The nucleolus is a distinct compartment of the nucleus responsible for ribosome biogenesis. Mis-regulation of nucleolar functions and of the cellular translation machinery has been associated with disease, in particular with many types of cancer. Indeed, many tumor suppressors (p53, Rb, PTEN, PICT1, BRCA1) and proto-oncogenes (MYC, NPM) play a direct role in the nucleolus, and interact with the...

The nucleolus is a prominent subnuclear domain and is classically regarded as the site of transcription of rRNA, processing of the precursor rRNAs and biogenesis of pre-ribosomal particles. In addition to these traditionally recognized activities, the nucleolus also participates in many other aspects of cell function. The umbravirus-encoded ORF3 protein is a multifunctional RNA-binding protein ...

We introduce two new monotonicity properties for core concepts: singlevalued solution concepts that always select a core allocation whenever the game is balanced (has a nonempty core). We present one result of impossibility for one of the properties and we pose several open questions for the second property. The open questions arise because the most important core concepts (the nucleolus and th...

Stages of meiosis from the bluebell Endymion non-scriptus (L.) were studied by electron microscopy. The nucleolus went through the process of segregation at the beginning of meiosis with the movement to its surface of a pale-staining region. This region was shown to be the same as that called the 'L zone' or lacunae of nucleoli. Its chromosomal nature was strongly suggested by the presence of t...

During early stages of meiotic prophase I the nucleus undergoes considerable reorganization, including the clustering of telomeres, the release of contacts between chromosomes and the nuclear membrane, the reorganization of the nucleolus, and chromatin remodeling. Using a light squashing technique for the analysis of meiotic chromosomes along with fluorescent in situ hybridization, transmission...
