An increased mortality from lung and stomach cancer was found in previous studies on Lorraine iron miners. A detailed analysis, however, was not possible due to the lack of data for survivors. In this study the cohort included 1178 workers selected at random from all the 5300 working miners aged between 35 and 55 at the start of the follow up period, which ranged from 1975 to 1985. Occupational...

This outdoor showcase features VIDENTE – an outdoor handheld solution enabling users to gain a glance at the underground infrastructure in their immediate environs. By combining mobile augmented reality (AR) and common wide area tracking technologies VIDENTE provides an enhanced vision of the road surface telling precisely where buried utility assets are situated beneath. The novel approach pro...

Due to invisibility and complexity of the underground displacement monitoring, there exit few practical monitoring sensors capable of monitoring the underground horizontal and vertical displacements simultaneously. A novel electromagnetic underground displacement sensor able to monitor both the horizontal and the vertical displacements was proposed in our previous studies and abbreviated as the...

Early work on natural language database query processing focused on theories of compositional semantics. Recent work concentrates on the translation of NL queries to SQL where semantics is primarily used in an ad hoc manner to guide syntactic translation. Here, we argue that there remains a need for an efficiently-implementable denotational semantics for NL DB queries, and show how this can be ...

(✓ 1 ✓ 2 ) := F ( ̄ ✓)(✓ 1 ✓ 2 ) (17) Since μ̇ > 0 and min (V ) > 0, we have (✓ 1 ✓ 2 ) 0 (G(✓ 1 ) G(✓ 2 )) (✓ 1 ✓ 2 ) 0 (V )(✓ 1 ✓ 2 ) > 0 for any ✓ 1 6= ✓ 2 . Hence, G(✓) is an injection from Rd to Rd, and so G 1 is a well-defined function. Consequently, (15) has a unique solution ˆ ✓ = G (Z). Let us consider an ⌘-neighborhood of ✓⇤, B⌘ := {✓ : k✓ ✓⇤k  ⌘}, where ⌘ > 0 is a constant that will ...

Dissatisfaction with work boot design is common in the mining industry. Many underground coal miners believe their work boots contribute to the high incidence of lower limb injuries they experience. Despite this, the most recent research to examine underground coal mining work boot satisfaction was conducted over a decade ago. This present study aimed to address this gap in the literature by as...

With the fast development and utilization of underground space resource in cities, the spatial distribution of urban underground pipelines becomes more and more complex. How to efficiently utilize the latest technology, realize underground space resources' management, visualization, layout optimization and mine applications, are challenging issues in current digital city development. Taking int...

Underground mining is a difficult area for miners to work. Miners must go the working faces by walking, which not only time consuming but also physically demanding. In mines, man-rider chair lift system (MRCL) has been developed alleviate strain stresses caused walking lengthy and uneven distances up faces. All parameters, including horizontal vertical distances, variation inclination of underg...

We estimate the cross section for the scattering of a slow, color-neutral technibaryon made of colored constituents with nuclei. We find a cross section of order A 10 cm, where A is the atomic number of the nucleus. Even if technibaryons constitute the dark matter in the galactic halo, this is too small to be detected in future underground detectors.
