This paper describes recent work on the automatic extraction of visual and audio parameters relating to the detection of synchrony in discourse, and to the modelling of active listening for advanced speech technology. It reports findings based on image processing that reliably identify the strong entrainment between members of a group conversation, and describes techniques for the extraction an...

An elderly patient with a relatively severe problem in speech understanding tried out, and rejected, use of a conventional hearing aid. She has accepted, however, and successfully used an assistive listening device (ALD). Her experience highlights the importance of considering trial use of an ALD in the elderly patient who rejects use of a conventional aid.

Sound event detection in real world environments has attracted significant research interest recently because of it’s applications in popular fields such as machine hearing and automated surveillance, as well as in sound scene understanding. This paper considers continuous robust sound event detection, which means multiple overlapped sound events in different types of interfering noise. First, ...

We c...

In this paper, we proposed a Power Saving Scheme (PSS) multi-hop sensor network using partition clusters. It avoids collision and idle listening time of sensor nodes for better overall network life time. The basic sensor nodes are simple and have limited power supplies, whereas the cluster head nodes are much more powerful and have many more power supplies, which organize sensors around them in...
