Manipulation of aorta, such as side clamping of the ascending aorta, is known as a possible cause of the increased incidence of perioperative cerebrovascular accidents during myocardial revascularization. We describe an easy and cheap alternative technique for proximal anastomosis of saphenous vein to aorta using a Hegar dilator without clamping in off-pump coronary artery bypass procedures. IN...

We propose a semi-automatic approach for aorta centerline extraction in contrast-enhanced MRI, making aorta length analysis feasible on large scale. Starting from user-specified start and end regions, we extract the aorta path in between the regions automatically. The extraction is formulated as an optimization problem, seeking for the path that most likely runs central to the aorta. To this en...

An elevated titer of anti-aorta antibodies was detected with a significantly higher frequency in cases of aortitis syndrome than in those of other diseases by the complement fixation test and tannic acid hemagglutination test. This finding indicates participation of immune mechanism in the development of aortitis syndrome. The direct fluorescent antibody technique disclosed that aorta antigens ...

introduction: during the recent years many studies have been performed on the effects of nitric oxide andoxygen-derived free radicals (ofr) on the aorta, but there is no report on the effects of simultaneousmanipulation of both systems on the relaxation of this artery. material and methods: after anaesthesia, aortic rings from male rats (320-420 g) were obtained. thepieces of aorta were mounted...

Persistent double dorsal aorta is a rare congenital anomaly of the descending aorta. It is an anomaly with two variants. The first type is characterized by complete separation of two dorsal aortae. The second type is a double-lumen descending aorta with a central dividing septum from the level just below the ductal ligament to the aortic bifurcation. We present a completely separated double dor...

A tree fell on the back of a 77-year-old male. A postmortem computed tomographic pan scan revealed systemic air embolism, multiple rib fractures with a penetrating injury to the aorta, pneumohemothorax, and air in the aorta. A massive amount of air entered the site of a penetrating injury of the aorta. This unique case adds one more cause to the list of documented etiologies of air in the aorta.

A 50-year-old woman with aortitis syndrome complicated by aortic dissection, is reported. The dissection was observed at the level of the descending thoracic aorta by aortography and at the intimal side of the dilated aorta on CT. An aneurysm of the right subclavian artery and a diffusely thick wall of the abdominal aorta were also observed. This case suggests that the uneven wall of the aorta ...
