We consider a very natural problem concerned with game manipulation. Let G be a directed graph where the nodes represent players of a game, and an edge from u to v means that u can beat v in the game. (If an edge (u, v) is not present, one cannot match u and v.) Given G and a “favorite” node A, is it possible to set up the bracket of a balanced single-elimination tournament so that A is guarant...
We present a method for combined fault localization and correction for sequential systems. We assume that the specification is given in linear-time temporal logic and state the localization and correction problem as a game that is won if there is a correction that is valid for all possible inputs. For invariants, our method guarantees that a correction is found if one exists. The set of fault m...
The Revised6 Report on Scheme introduces three fundamental changes involving Scheme’s recursive variable binding constructs. First, it standardizes the sequential recursive binding construct, letrec*, which evaluates its initialization expressions in a strict leftto-right order. Second, it specifies that internal and library definitions have letrec* semantics. Third, it prohibits programs from ...
We present an information-theoretic framework for understanding trade-offs in unsupervised learning of deep latent-variables models using variational inference. This framework emphasizes the need to consider latent-variable models along two dimensions: the ability to reconstruct inputs (distortion) and the communication cost (rate). We derive the optimal frontier of generative models in the two...
This paper studies the equivariant cobordism classification of all involutions fixing a disjoint union of an odd-dimensional real projective space RP with its normal bundle nonbounding and a Dold manifold P (h, i) with h > 0 and i > 0. For odd h, the complete analysis of the equivariant cobordism classes of such involutions is given except that the upper and lower bounds on codimension of P (h,...
We present a comparison of a text-driven and a speech driven visual speech synthesiser. Both are trained using the same data and both use the same Active Appearance Model (AAM) to encode and re-synthesise visual speech. Objective quality, measured using correlation, suggests the performance of both approaches is close, but subjective opinion ranks the text-driven approach significantly higher.
In this study, we present a new multi-band image representation for improving AAM segmentation accuracy for illumination invariant face alignment. AAM is known to be very sensitive to the illumination variations. We have shown that edges, originating from object boundaries are far less susceptible to illumination changes. Here, we propose a contour selector which mostly collects contours origin...
Mitchell's key insight that all bioenergetic membranes run on the conversion of redox energy into transmembrane electrical and proton gradients took the form 30 years ago of a working model of the Q cycle of cytochrome bc1, which operates reversibly on coupled electron and proton transfers of quinone at two binding sites on opposite membrane faces. His remarkable model still stands today, but h...
We consider dilaton stabilization with R invariance, which insures a vanishing cosmological constant at the scale of stabilization. We construct a few models which accommodate weak gauge couplings with large or small gauge groups. Matter condensation plays a central role in the dilaton stabilization.
Introduction: Skeletal staining is an important part of anatomical studies which can evaluate macroscopic disorders in bones and cartilages development. The aim of the present article is to illustrate two distinct protocols by all details in order to stain skeletal system of the lab animals in all ages of their lives so it becomes easy for future studies in this field. Methods: In this pa...
