BACKGROUND Patients with metastatic solid tumors (MST) with less than a complete response to chemotherapy (L-CR), a depressed immune system and elevated serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) lack defined treatment options. The primary endpoint evaluated in this study was whether interleukin-2 (IL-2) and 13-cisretinoic acid (RA) treatment reduced VEGF and improved immune function in su...

We report a case of incidentally diagnosed chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in a patient with glioblastoma, which responded completely following standard treatment of the glioblastoma with temozolomide and cranial irradiation. The patient remained without an evidence of CLL until his death from recurrent glioblastoma. Further study of temozolomide for the treatment of CLL is indicated.

The management of rectal cancer has evolved significantly in the last few decades. Significant improvements in local disease control were achieved in the 1990s, with the introduction of total mesorectal excision and neoadjuvant radiotherapy. Level 1 evidence has shown that, with neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy (CRT) the rates of local recurrence can be lower than 6% and, as a result, neoadju...

Locally advanced or metastatic disease is present in 2/3s of patients with pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer patients are assessed as resectable, potentially resectable (borderline) and unresectable according to pre-operative examinations. The chance for operability may be enhanced by using adjuvant-neoadjuvant systemic chemotherapy, radiotherapy or both. The rates of R0 resection may be inc...

Epithelioid haemangioendotheliomas are rare tumours of endothelial origin. They can develop in any tissue but occur principally in the lung and liver. Their usual course is a slow progression, so that they can be treated by surgery. In aggressive forms, no treatment has proved efficient to date. This study, describes a case of bilateral pleural epithelioid haemangioendothelioma that extended to...
