Spatially moving predators are often considered for biological control of invasive species. The question arises as to whether introduced predators are able to stop an advancing pest or foreign population. In recent studies of reaction-diffusion models, it has been shown that the prey invasion can only be stopped if the prey dynamics observes an Allee effect. In this paper, we include prey-taxis...

The existence of surface elastic waves at a mechanically free surface of granular phononic crystals is studied. The granular phononic crystals are made of spherical particles distributed periodically on a simple cubic lattice. It is assumed that the particles are interacting by means of normal, shear, and bending contact rigidities. First, Rayleigh-type surface acoustic waves, where the displac...

We study transport for a scalar model of Love waves. These waves arise in the propagation of seismic waves whose energy is concentrated in the vicinity of the earth surface. We derive radiative transfer equations from rst principles for the angularly resolved energy density of the Love waves in a simpliied acoustic model. We consider a rough top surface with weak uctuations at the scale of the ...

We address the formation of optical surface waves at the very edge of semiconductor materials illuminated by modulated light beams that generate thermal waves rapidly fading in the bulk material. We find families of thresholdless surface waves existing owing to the combined action of thermally-induced refractive index modulations and instantaneous Kerr-type nonlinearity.

This study tries to identify, classify, and analyze synoptic cold wave in North West region of Iran. This study applies standardized (z scores) index of Minimum Temperature in the period of 1951-2010.as such cold waves were classified based on the intensity of occurance. Out of occured cold wave in North West of the coldest identified wave pertaingt each class for synoptic analyzes were selecte...

OBJECTIVE - To determine if the application of a continuous electrode paste band on precordial leads results in alteration of the electrocardiographic tracing as compared with an adequate amount of electrode paste, and if the former condition does not cause uniform morphologies from V1 to V6. METHODS - The amplitude and morphology of the electrocardiographic waves on the precordial leads in ele...

The volume and surface waves supported by a 2D PC slab with termination condition are systematically studied using the rigorous modematching method incorporating the Floquet's solutions. It is interesting to observe that the surface waves are caused by the perturbation of the PC-slab modes from the imposed termination condition, enabling the transition from volume wave to surface wave. The pert...

For the one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equations with parity-time (PT) symmetric potentials, it is shown that when a real symmetric potential is perturbed by weak PT-symmetric perturbations, continuous families of asymmetric solitary waves in the real potential are destroyed. It is also shown that in the same model with a general PT-symmetric potential, symmetry breaking of PT-symmetric ...

A generalized Poisson summation formula produces an explicit expression for the surface current on a plane that radiates set of preselected waves. Specifically, is expressed as integral in complex function whose poles determine plane-wave directions propagation and residues corresponding amplitudes. When only finite number waves are specified, continuous function. If infinite can degenerate int...
