The effects of femtosecond laser machining on surface characteristics and subsurface microstructure of a Nitinol alloy were studied. The femtosecond laser machining produced an average surface roughness of 0.2 μm. A re-deposited layer of 7 μm and a hardened layer of 70 μm were also resulted from the machining.

A system Is presented that combines the automated planning and. optimization functions in machining processes. The planning function is performed by a systematic analysis of the stated requirements of the finished part in the light of information on available machining facilities and raw materials. The optimization phase utilizes a mathematical programming model to take into account various cos...

Wire electric discharge machining (WEDM) is one of the advanced machining processes. Response surface methodology coupled with Grey relation analysis method has been proposed and used to optimise the machining parameters of WEDM. A face centred cubic design is used for conducting experiments on high speed steel (HSS) M2 grade workpiece material. The regression model of significant factors such ...

The focus of this review is recent work to develop microstructured hollow core fibers for two applications where the flexible delivery of a single mode beam is desired. Also, a brief review of other fiber based solutions is included. High power, short-pulsed lasers arewidely used formicro-machining, providing highprecision andhigh quality. However, the lack of truly flexible beam delivery syste...

Complex shapes are widely used to design products in several industries such as aeronautics, automotive and domestic appliances. Several variations of their curvatures and orientations generate difficulties during their manufacturing or the machining of dies used in moulding, injection and forging. Analysis of several parts highlights two levels of difficulties between three types of shapes: pr...

Electric Discharge Machining is a non-conventional machining process, used to machining difficult to machine materials. The major problem faced while doing EDM is high tool wear rate, end wear, corner wear , surface roughness and low material removal rate,. In this research work experimental investigations have been made to find the machining characteristics of high density ultra fine graphite ...

This paper describes a method of machining feature recognition from a freeform surface based on the relationship between unique machining patches and critical points on a component’s surface. The method uses Morse theory to extract critical surface points by defining a scalar function on the freeform surface. Features are defined by region growing between the critical points using a tool path g...
