We demonstrate a direct connection between the density profile of a system of ultracold trapped bosonic particles in the rapid-rotation limit and its condensate fraction. This connection can be used to probe the crossover from condensed vortex-lattice states to uncondensed quantum-fluid states that occurs in rapidly rotating boson systems as the particle density decreases or the rotation freque...
These early chapters seem less valuable than they might be. They are too condensed to be an adequate summary of psychopathology for the student and too superficial to interest the specialist. They serve, nevertheless, one useful purpose?namely, to indicate the type of technique employed by the author. That a collection of case histories should include some indication of the technique by which t...
We scrutinize the concept of saturation of the thermal component in a partially condensed trapped Bose gas. Using a 39K gas with tunable interactions, we demonstrate strong deviation from Einstein's textbook concept of a saturated vapor. However, the saturation picture can be recovered by extrapolation to the strictly noninteracting limit. We provide evidence for the universality of our observa...
The Ginzburg-Landau model with two-order parameters appears in many condensed-matter problems. However, even for scalar order parameters, the most general U(1)-symmetric Landau potential with all quadratic and quartic terms contains 13 independent coefficients and cannot be minimized with straightforward algebra. Here, we develop a geometric approach that circumvents this computational difficul...
We consider the motion of a quasi-one-dimensional beam of Bose-Einstein condensed particles in a disordered region of finite extent. Interaction effects lead to the appearance of two distinct regions of stationary flow. One is subsonic and corresponds to superfluid motion. The other one is supersonic and dissipative and shows Anderson localization. We compute analytically the interaction-depend...
A spontaneous and controllable removal of condensed microdroplets at high supersaturation via self-propelled jumping is achieved by introducing a designed micropore array on a nanostructured superhydrophobic surface. The fabricated surface was demonstrated to delay the ice formation for 1 hour at -15 °C with a supersaturation of 6.97.
