In the formal analysis of health-care, there is little work that combines probabilistic and temporal reasoning. On the one hand, there are those that aim to support the clinical thinking process, which is characterised by trade-off decision making taking into account uncertainty and preferences, i.e., the process has a probabilistic and decisiontheoretic flavour. On the other hand, the manageme...

We consider two models commonly used in the literature to model adversarial injection of packets into a packet switching network. We establish the relation between these two types of models, and between them and the set of sequences of packets that allow stability. We also consider the adaptive setting in which packets are injected with only their source and destination but without a prescribed...

This paper presents an approach for reducing the test data volume that has to be stored in ATE vector memory for IC manufacturing testing. We exploit the capabilities of present ATE to assign groups of input pins to ports and to perform vector repeat per port. This allows run-length encoding of test stimuli per port. We improve the encoding by filling the don’t-care bits in the test stimuli, su...

When a structure is put under an increasing compressive load, it may become unstable and buckle. Buckling is a particularly significant concern in designing shell structures such as aircraft, automobiles, ships, or bridges. This book discusses stability analysis and buckling problems and offers practical tools for dealing with uncertainties that inherently exist in real systems. The techniques ...

This paper develops a general policy for learning the relevant features of an imitation task. We restrict our study to imitation of manipulative tasks or gestures. The imitation process is modeled as a hierarchical optimization system, which minimizes the discrepancy between two multi-dimensional datasets. To classify across manipulation strategies, we apply a probabilistic analysis to data in ...

We highlight intriguing analogies between the diameter of a polytope and the largest possible total curvature of the associated central path. We prove continuous analogues of the results of Holt and Klee, and Klee and Walkup: We construct a family of polytopes which attain the conjectured order of the largest curvature, and prove that the special case where the number of inequalities is twice t...

The interest is in a stochastic model for the competition of two species, which was first introduced by Reuter [16] and Iglehart [10], and then analyzed by Ridler-Rowe [17]. The model is related to the two-species autonomous competitive model (Zeeman [21]), where individuals compete either directly or indirectly for a limited food supply and, consequently, births and death rates depend on the p...

Consider the family tree of an age-dependent branching process, where the branches have costs corresponding to birth times. The first-birth problem of Hammersley (1974) then concerns the cost of an optimal (cheapest) node at depth n. Suppose that we must explore the tree so as to find an optimal or nearly optimal node at depth n. We now have a suitable model for analysing the behaviour of tree ...

In this paper, we introduce the  probabilistic normed groups. Among other results, we investigate the continuityof inner automorphisms of a group and the continuity of left and right shifts in probabilistic group-norm. We also study midconvex functions defined  on probabilistic normed groups and  give  some results about locally boundedness of such  functions.
