We report a facile synthesis of bifunctional Fe3O4-Ag(125)I heterodimers for use as dual-modality imaging agents in magnetic resonance (MR) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). We introduced (125)I, which is a clinically used radioisotope, as a SPECT reporter, into Fe3O4-Ag heterodimer nanoparticles to provide a new type of bifunctional contrast agent for MRI and SPECT imaging.

In MRI, anatomical structures are most often differentiated by variations in their bulk magnetic properties. Alternatively, exogenous contrast agents can be attached to chemical moieties that confer affinity to molecular targets; the distribution of such contrast agents can be imaged by magnetic resonance. Xenon-based molecular sensors are molecular imaging agents that rely on the reversible ex...

PURPOSE Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a cell surface protein that is overexpressed in prostate cancer, including hormone-refractory and metastatic disease. Our goal in this study was to develop a series of PSMA-based imaging agents for clinical use. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN We have synthesized and evaluated the in vivo biodistribution of two radiolabeled urea derivatives that have h...

magnetic resonance imaging (mri) is a notable medical imaging technique that makes of phenomenon of nuclear magnetic resonance. because of the resolution and the technology being harmless, mri has considered as the most desirable imaging technique in clinical applications. the visual quality of mri plays an important role in accuracy of medical delineations that can be seriously degraded by exi...

Receptors and proteins are overexpressed in many human cancer cell membranes rather than normal tissues and are considered as the main molecular targets. Specific tumor- targeting molecules which have high affinity for these receptors can be valuable tools as carrier molecules for targeted cancer therapy and imaging. Pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of diagnostic and therapeutic agents are ...

Medical ultrasound imaging due to close behavior of cancer tumors to body tissues has a low contrast. This problem with synthetic aperture imaging method has been addressed. Although the synthetic aperture imaging technique solved the low-contrast problem of ultrasound images, to an acceptable limit, but the performance of these methods is not even acceptable when the signal to noise ratio (SNR...

Most imaging agents can be seen as frameworks that support and carry imaging elements. The imaging element provides radiopacity or radioactivity, or induces changes in echogenicity or magnetic relaxation times in the tissues. In medicine liposomes are known as potential carriers for therapeutic agents. The utilization of liposomes as vehicles for contrast agents has been proposed and studied by...

Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is an important biomarker in several tumors. Available imaging probes display relatively low tumor to background ratios (smaller than 2:1). We evaluated newly developed indomethacin (Ind) derivatives for in vivo molecular imaging of COX-2 expressing carcinoma. Radioiodinated Ind derivatives Ind-NH-(CH2)4-NH-3-[I-125]I-Bz ([I-125]5), Ind-NH-(CH2)4-NH-5-[I-124/125]I-Nic (...
