We assessed the physico-chemical status of twelve surface water samples from the Birjand flood plain (east of Iran) during fall 2010. The sampling points were selected on the basis of their importance. The physico-chemical parameters such as pH, temperature (T), electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness (TH), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+ ), sodium (Na+), pota...

Flooding’s impact on shallow groundwater is not well investigated. In this study, we analyzed changes in the depth and quality of a regional shallow aquifer in the 10.9 × 104 km2 Sanjiang Plain, Northeast China, following a large flood in the summer of 2013. Pre(2008–2012) and post-flood records on groundwater table depth and groundwater chemistry were gathered from 20 wells across the region. ...

In this research, to locate and prioritize suitable areas for flood spreading in Mashhad plain, 10 criteria were used including land use, slope, alluvium thickness, distance to well, distance to subterranean, distance from the village, water table drawdown, permeability coefficient, electrical conductivity, and drainage density. Weighting process was done by Analytic Network Process (ANP) and f...

Considering characteristics of high river density, special underlying surface in plain river network region, and municipal drainage system function, river network drainage unit model is proposed, which is defined as a region surrounded by main river or embankment. Flood storage variety and control projects regulation of small rivers in each unit is simulated. With drainage catchment as an objec...

Inadequate productivity and over-capacity of land in many watersheds and plains of the country, has increased flooding potential. Therefore, reducing flood damage with the participation of both policymakers and the public as key stakeholders in decision-making, planning, long-term management and foresight in decisions are unavoidable. In the present study, SWOT analytical method was used to ...

This paper deals with the development of a computer model for flood routing in narrow rivers. Equations describing the propagation of a flood wave in a channel-flood plain system are presented and solved using an implicit finite difference scheme. Particular emphasis has been given to the treatment of the friction term in the governing equation of motion.

Cyprinid fish, Hemiculter leucisculus, Cultrichthys erythropterus and Culter dabryi, were sampled from Liangzi, Honghu and Tangxun lakes in the flood plain of the Yangtze River. The cestode Bothriocephalus acheilognathi Yamaguti, 1934 was found in the 3 lakes, but C. erythropterus sampled from Liangzi lake was found uninfected due probably to the small sample size. Findings of the cestode in th...

The sulphur isotope content, ôS, of sulphate from two potential pollution sources in Volga-Akhtuba flood plain surface waters was investigated. Isotope compositions of sulphur compound emissions from the Astrakhan Gas Condensate Complex and the Astrakhan Pulp and Paper Mill were significantly different which provided an opportunity to differentiate effects from these two emission sources on nea...

Harris Wash, a tributary of the Escalante River in south-central Utah, has two wellpreserved alluvial terraces of compound origin in its lower reaches. The alluvial stratigraphy of the deposits that compose these terraces reflects the complex processes of canyon filling and erosion. The compound terraces were formed by general aggradation of the valley, by deposition from large floods that also...
