Turbidity, structure, and rheological features during gelation via the Ugi multicomponent condensation reaction of semidilute solutions of alginate have been investigated at different polymer and cross-linker concentrations and reaction temperatures. The gelation time of the system decreased with increasing polymer and cross-linker concentrations, and a temperature rise resulted in a faster gel...

Using Zn(2+)-BPMP or Cu(2+)-BPMP as a receptor and o-mercaptophenol as an indicator, potentiometric sensing of aqueous phosphate by competition assays was achieved. With attractive features of portability, low cost and resistance to interference from turbidity and color, this sensor was successfully used for phosphate detection in biological and water samples.

colloids are small suspended particles in water which can not be settled or removed naturally due to their light weight and stability. these particles pose some degree of stability and cause water turbidity. there are some concerns regarding colloid removal efficiency in water treatment plants of iran. in this study, the effectiveness of aluminium sulfate and poly-aluminum chloride was evaluate...

Background: Arsenic has been considered as one of the most hazardous element for the living organisms and its presence in natural waters, can result in serious health and environmental problems. In this study, Pistacia Atlantica seed extract ability in a batch system to remove arsenate from aqueous solutions was investigated. Materials and methods: This study is an experimental study that was ...

The Minnesota River Basin (MRB), situated in the prairie pothole region of the Upper Midwest, contributes excessive sediment and nutrient loads to the Upper Mississippi River. Over 330 stream channels in the MRB are listed as impaired by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, with turbidity levels exceeding water quality standards in much of the basin. Addressing turbidity impairment requires ...

During the past 50 years, the turbidite paradigm has promoted many myths related to deep-water turbidite deposition. John E. Sanders (1926–1999), a pioneering process sedimentologist, first uncovered many of these turbidite myths. This paper provides a reality check by undoing 10 of these turbidite myths. Myth No. 1: turbidity currents are non-turbulent flows with multiple sediment-support mech...

Turbidity can influence trophic levels by altering species composition and can potentially affect fish feeding strategies and predator-prey interactions. The estuarine turbidity maximum, described as an area of increased suspended particles, phytoplankton and zooplankton, generally represents a zone with higher turbidity and enhanced food sources important for successful feeding and growth in m...

Penaeus japonicus juveniles were exposed for 3 wk to different turbidities of suspended sediments: control [2 + 2 nephelometric turbidity units (NTU)], medium turbidity (35 f 15 NTU) and high turbidity (65 f 15 NTU). The mortality rate increased after exposure to high turbidity Exposed late luveniles became less tolerant to changes in ambient salinity and showed hlgher mortalities at low salini...
