Spectroscopic and in cellulo studies are here reported on the very first BODIPY-luminol chemiluminescent resonance energy-transfer (CRET) cassette where the luminol CL agent is covalently linked to the BODIPY energy-transfer acceptor in a molecular dyad. The efficiency of intramolecular CRET investigated for the BODIPY-luminol dyad was found to be 64% resulting in a dual emissive response. Succ...
Systematic studies on phenol derivatives facilitates an explanation of the enhancement or inhibition of the luminol-H2O2-horseradish peroxidase system chemiluminescence. Factors that govern the enhancement are the one-electron reduction potentials of the phenoxy radicals (PhO./PhOH) vs. luminol radicals (L./LH-) and the reaction rates of the phenol derivatives with the compounds of horseradish ...
Ultra-weak photon emission (UPE) of a living system received scientific attention because of its potential for monitoring increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this study, a highly sensitive cryogenic charge-coupled device (CCD) camera was used to monitor in a RA mouse model the photon emission both without and with luminol. For t...
A sensitive and fast chemiluminescence (CL) method has been described for the direct determination of atropine. The method is based on the quenching effect of atropine on the CL signals of the luminol– H2O2 reaction catalyzed by hemin in an alkaline medium. Hemin could strongly enhance the chemiluminescence of the luminol–H2O2 system. The luminophor of the luminol–H2O2–hemin CL system was ident...
ground due to oxygen. This background ECL however, does not prevent one from obtaining peroxide detection limits below I ,aM. The ECL intensity varies with both pH and potential. The net ECL to background ECL ratio is a maximum at pH 10. Gold and glassy carbon electrodes are preferable to platinum, but gold is somewhat better than glassy carbon. Potentials more negative than +0.3 V yield insign...
Quinones are a class of compounds of substantial toxicological and pharmacological interest. An ultrasensitive and highly selective chemiluminescence (CL) method was newly developed for the determination of quinones based on the utility of photochemically initiated luminol CL. The method involved ultraviolet (UV) irradiation of quinones to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) through the uniq...
The Chemiluminescence (CL) that accompanies the oxidation of luminol with tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BuOOH) in alkaline medium was studied. The reaction occurring between luminol and t-BuOOH in alkaline medium leads to the production of nitrogen gas with simultaneous emission of CL. The effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) like aspirin and ibuprofen has also been studied. T...
4-Iodophenol was applied to an enhancer in the direct detection of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) encapsulated in liposomes by using luminol chemiluminescence (CL). Luminol, 4-iodophenol and hydrogen peroxide permeate into the inner phase of liposomes containing HRP, resulting in the progress of 4-iodophenol-enhanced luminol CL catalyzed by HRP in liposomes. The CL intensity observed in liposomes...
Since metals are cable of catalysing the free radical reactions, different metal (Mg, Mn, Zn) compounds were studied to determine their hydroxyl radical generating and/or scavenging abilities depending on ligand in a H2O2/OH -luminol system with or without microperoxidase. Magnesium oxide, magnesium gluconate and manganese gluconate increase the free radical reactions in the H2O2/OH -luminol sy...
Hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid, a versatile reagent for organic synthesis, has been explored as an effective coreactant for luminol chemiluminescence. Co(2+) can dramatically enhance the chemiluminescence of this system. The sensitive detection of Co(2+), luminol and HOSA, including highly selective Co(2+) detection, is achieved.
