Malaria control depends on mosquito susceptibility to insecticides. We tested Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes from Côte d'Ivoire for resistance and screened a subset for target site mutations. Mosquitoes were resistant to insecticides of all approved classes. Such complete resistance, which includes exceptionally strong phenotypes, presents a major threat to malaria control.

Introduction: Malaria is still an important health problem in southern Iran. Anopheles stephensi is one of the most important vectors of malaria, especially in urban areas. Because of long time of chemical insecticides against vectors in endemic areas and their potential resistance to such chemicals, it is necessary that vectors continuously to be assessed against susceptibility level. We...

There is considerable interest in the management of insecticide resistance in mosquitoes. One possible approach to slowing down the evolution of resistance is to use late-life-acting (LLA) insecticides that selectively kill only the old mosquitoes that transmit malaria, thereby reducing selection pressure favoring resistance. In this paper we consider an age-structured compartmental model for m...

The fight against diseases spread by mosquitoes and other insects has enormous environmental, economic and social consequences. Chemical insecticides remain the first line of defence but the control of diseases, especially malaria and dengue fever, is being increasingly undermined by insecticide resistance. Mosquitoes have a large repertoire of P450s (over 100 genes). By pinpointing the key enz...

background : according to the national strategy plan on monitoring of insecticides resistance, this study was carried out to determine the base line susceptibility of the culicidae mosquitoes to the who-recommended insecticides in an endemic focus of malaria in southeastern iran. methods : larval collection was carried out by dipping method and adult collection occurred by suction tube from jan...

background: in turkey, vector control programs are mainly based on indoor residual spraying with pyrethroids against mosquitoes. no special control program is available for sand flies. most insecticide susceptibility tests were done for mosquitoes but not for sand flies. we therefore aimed to determine the insecticide susceptibility against two commonly used insecticides; deltamethrin and per...

The control/eradication of culicines is receivi-ng increasag attention, since these mosquitoes are not only carriers of important diseases, such as filariasis, yellow fever, haemorrhagic fever, but have also been incrimtnated as important carriers of other arbo viruses of man and‘animals. F’urthermore, these mosquitoes are a great nuisance since they feed on man with great avidity. Control of ....

a major concern in the last few years has been the fact that the cultural centers are keeping distance with what they have been established for and instead of reproducing the hegemony, they have turned into a place for resistance and reproduction of resistance against hegemony. because the cultural centers, as urban public spaces in the last two decades, have been the subject of ideological dis...

A big problem in malaria control is the rapidity with which mosquitoes can develop resistance to insecticides. The possibility of creating evolution-proof insecticides is therefore of considerable interest. Biologists have suggested that effective malaria control, with only weak selection for insecticide resistance, could be achieved if insecticides target only old mosquitoes that have already ...

Insecticides are one of the cheapest, most effective, and best proven methods of controlling malaria, but mosquitoes can rapidly evolve resistance. Such evolution, first seen in the 1950s in areas of widespread DDT use, is a major challenge because attempts to comprehensively control and even eliminate malaria rely heavily on indoor house spraying and insecticide-treated bed nets. Current strat...
