In the title chalcone derivative, C(20)H(22)O(6), the dihedral angle between the mean planes of the benzene rings is 15.77 (6)°. The H atoms of the central C=C double bond are in a trans configuration. There are a number of C-H⋯O interactions and a C-H⋯π interaction present in the crystal structure.

In the structure of the title chalcone, C(17)H(14)O(2), derived from cinnamaldehyde, the olefine group has a trans configuration. The mol-ecular conformation is stabilized by an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen-bond inter-action with graph-set motif S(6).

The mol-ecule of the title compound, C(15)H(9)BrCl(2)O, is shown to be the E isomer, with the 3,4-dichloro-benzoyl and p-bromo-phenyl substituents in trans positions with respect to the chalcone olefin bond. The mol-ecule is non-planar, the two aromatic rings forming a dihedral angle of 49.58 (1)°.

The reversibly switchable trans-chalcone/flavylium photochromic system was successfully coupled to the complexation equilibrium of a drug-cucurbit[7]uril host-guest assembly. Hence, the phototriggered release of memantine under illumination at 366 nm was observed. The process can be partially reverted through a thermally activated back reaction.

The solution structure of the Bacillus subtilis protein YndB has been solved using NMR to investigate proposed biological functions. The YndB structure exhibits the helix-grip fold, which consists of a β-sheet with two small and one long α-helix, forming a hydrophobic cavity that preferentially binds lipid-like molecules. Sequence and structure comparisons with proteins from eukaryotes, prokary...

Leaves of a novel strain of peas (Pisum sativum L.) were used to determine the distribution of secondary metabolites and their biosynthetic enzymes. Leaf epidermal layers in this strain are easily separated from the parenchyma. Anthocyanins and flavonol glycosides were localized in epidermal vacuoles only. Among the biosynthetic enzymes studied, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL, EC 4.3.1.5), S-...

Cinchona alkaloid-derived organocatalysts are widely employed in various asymmetric transformations, yielding products with high enantiopurity. In this respect, a bifunctional quinine-derived sulfonamide organocatalyst was developed to catalyze the sulfa-Michael reaction of naphthalene-1-thiol trans -chalcone derivatives. The target adducts were obtained up 96% ee under mild conditions and low ...

The complex network of chemical reactions of the compound 6-hydroxyflavylium perchlorate was studied by different techniques including UV-vis absorption spectrophotometry, stopped-flow, electrochemistry, and photochemistry. The network is characterized by the formation of a very reactive zwitterionic base as well as by p-quinoidal chalcones. The trans-chalcone is metastable in very acidic solut...

Background and purpose: Chalcones are promising lead for anticancer drug design and discovery. Chalcones with different mechanisms including tubulin polymerization inhibition induce apoptosis in cancer cells. The aim of current work was synthesis of two indole-chalcone derivatives and investigation of their cytotoxic activity against cancer and normal cell lines, as well as molecular docking st...
